This weekend, see some of the country’s best contemporary art at David Roche Gallery or celebrate 175 years of Barossa Valley icon Seppeltsfield Estate.
This touring exhibition, presented by Sydney’s S.H. Ervin Gallery, displays more than 50 remarkable works exclusively at David Roche Gallery. Known as the popular alternative to the Archibald Prize and the Wynne Prize Salon Des Refuses features portraits and landscapes recognised for their quality, diversity and experimentation, but were not selected for the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ esteemed exhibitions. These works offer insight into contemporary art practices, different approaches to portraiture and responses to the landscape.

This sharp, provocative play from Ash Flanders interrogates the ethics of artmaking, accountability and memory in an era of public reckoning. Commentary is presented by State Theatre Company South Australia and is showing at Dunstan Playhouse.

This haunting tale from the Brothers Grimm is reimagined in a genre-bending production by Constantine Costi at Mer Majesty’s Theatre. State Opera South Australia presents Hansel and Gretel like it’s never been seen before, featuring Humperdinck’s Wagnerian score played by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. Starring Kangmin Justin Kim, Sofia Troncoso, Catherine Carby, Morgan Pearse and Lucy Stoddart, this is a fairy tale not just for children, but for anyone who has ever had to face their fears.

Patch Theatre’s multi-award-winning production returns to delight a new generation of young audiences this month. Me & My Shadow is a visual poem brought to life through light and colour, and invites children into a world where shadows shift, stretch and surprise, and explores the challenges of friendship. Original performers Astrid Pill and Nathan O’Keefe return to the stage for this anniversary season of six performances at the Space Theatre.

Presented by State Opera South Australia, this Tony Award-winning musical asks the question: what happens after happily ever after? Follow a baker and his wife as they embark on a quest to break a witch’s curse in a tale that combines beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Repunzel. With an all-South Australian cast led by Hugh Sheridan and Johanna Allen, Into the Woods is on at Her Majesty’s Theatre.

Adelaide Central School of Art opens its doors to the public in a rare chance to see South Australia’s only independent art school in action, with campus tours, student artwork displays, library book sale, hot food and a bake sale. The on-campus gallery is showing SALA exhibition Pile-up, and artist Troy-Anthony Baylis gives an artist talk at 12.30pm. Lecturers and administration staff are available to discuss future study – either through formal award courses or the short course program.
