Adelaide Gin Festival

June 12-14

Celebrate Adelaide’s thriving gin culture as the best local boutique distillers, old and new, converge in one place. Receive a tote bag on arrival to store all of your purchases, and taste your way around – all gin drinks are included in the ticket price. Tickets start at $70 per person, with deals for bundles. Adelaide Gin Festival is held over five sessions across three days at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

BMGART at The Mezzanine

June 12-27

BMG returns to The Mezzanine this weekend to celebrate the works of Barbara Chalk, Simon Lownsborough and Todd Hunter. Barbara Chalk’s body of work Hare Brained explores her brush with a serious brain injury and ultimate recovery. Meanwhile, Simon Lownsborough demonstrated that Less in More with his inimitable use of basic earth materials and Todd Hunter completes the exciting exhibitions with two dynamic abstractions.

The best of contemporary Spanish and Latin American cinema is heating up screens across the country as this film festival returns for its 29th edition. Festival highlights include an intimate and charming love story, Nothing Between Us; historical adventure from award-winning director Alejandro Amenábar, The Captive; and Spanish box office hit from writer/director Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, Sundays. The festival takes place at Palace Nova Cinemas.

How to Train Your Dragon in Concert

Follow the unlikely and tradition-defying friendship between young Viking and dragon, Hiccup and Toothless, as they fight against the odds to save both of their worlds. Experience the family favourite How to Train Your Dragon like never before as the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra brings John Powell’s Academy Award nominated score to life against the backdrop a big screen at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Coober Pedy Opal Festival

June 12-14

Coober Pedy’s largest annual event returns to showcase the outback, the community and, of course, all things opals. The festival kicks off on Friday night with dinner at Big Winch 360 prepared by chef Eddie Noble, and closes with fast paced action at the Speedway on Sunday. Other highlights include a street parade, market stalls, live music and performances, novelty games, karaoke competition, fireworks and an after party at the Italian Club on Saturday night. Entry to the festival hub at Coober Pedy Oval is free and some events are ticketed.

Winter Whale Fest

Until June 30

Join Victor Harbor in welcoming the annual migration of the Southern Right Whales to the Fleurieu Peninsula in this month-long celebration. Connect with the ocean and explore this festival’s program of cultural, educational and nature-based experiences. Expect guided whale watching tours, conservation talks and workshops, Indigenous cultural experiences, art and photography exhibitions and other family friendly activities. Winter Whale Fest takes place at various locations across Victor Harbor and is on all month.
