ALMA BRAZIL! Festival

Adelaide will explode with colour, rhythm and the flavours of Brazil from November 20 to 23. ALMA BRAZIL! Festival showcases the best of Brazilian culture over four days with events across Adelaide. Among the highlights is Viva Brazil! Noite de Cabaret Brasilerio, fusing Parisian cabaret with Rio Carnival in a black tie gala on Saturday, November 22; and Sol Brazil! – a day at the beach packed with family friendly activities. Bowerbird Design Market

Get your Christmas shopping sorted when Bowerbird Design Market returns to Adelaide Showground from November 21 to 23. Billed as Adelaide’s premier design market, Bowerbird showcases the best Australian designers, makers and producers. This month’s edition sees the return of Bowerbird favourites from designers, makers and producers, including brands exclusive to the market. There’ll be everything from art and stationery to body products, clothing and textiles, fashion accessories, furniture, homewares and jewellery. Make a day of it, with plenty of food and drink vendors on site, as well as hands-on workshops and live music. The Bowerbird design market takes place at the Adelaide Showground this weekend.

James Morrison with Big Band Liechtenstein 

Music legend and virtuoso trumpeter James Morrison returns to Adelaide for a swing-tastic night this Saturday, November 22. James is joined by the esteemed Big Band Liechtenstein jazz ensemble, making its Australian debut. Expect big band swing favourites including Benny Goodman’s Sing, Sing, Sing and Glenn Miller’s In The Mood. “I’m honoured to be playing with this fabulous big band who will blow you away with their incredible musicianship and passion,” James says. This performance is on at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Saturday at 7.30pm.

Tarnanthi Exhibitions

Plan a trip to the Hills for the opening of two captivating Tarnanthi exhibitions at FABRIK Arts + Heritage next Sunday, November 30. Woven within Stars brings together a collection of works by nine First Nations artists from across northern South Australia and Galinyala/Port Lincoln that offer powerful insight into stories, culture and connection to Country. Yirri exhibits intricate weavings by Janette Murrungun from Numbulwar in the Northern Territory who uses fibre with nylon from ghost nets to create traditional yirri carrier bags. Both exhibitions take place at FABRIK Arts + Heritage in Lobethal and open to the public this Friday, November 28, with an official opening on Sunday, November 30.

The Nutcracker

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker has become a Christmas favourite since it was first performed in 1892. Set on a chilly Christmas Eve, the classic ballet follows a young girl, Clara, whose magical nutcracker comes and takes her on a journey to the enchanting land of dancing snowflakes, mischievous mice and the Sugar Plum Fairy. This BIG Live production features world-class dancers from across the globe. The Nutcracker is on at Her Majesty’s Theatre from November 26 to 28.

Anh Do: The Happiest Refugee Live!

Comedian, author, and artist Anh Do brings his show The Happiest Refugee Live!  to venues around Adelaide this November 25 to 27. Based on his best-selling memoir, The Happiest Refugee, this show combines humour with real-life anecdotes, photos and filmed pieces. Anh shares his inspiring story of resilience and overcoming struggles, including the harrowing experience of arriving in Australia on an eight-metre fishing boat with 47 other refugees in 1980. This show takes place at Hopgood Theatre in Noarlunga on November 25, Shedley Theatre in Elizabeth on November 26 and Norwood Concert Hall in Norwood on November 27.
