Rock n roll’s reigning king of statement sunglasses and leather pants will headline the Saturday night lineup at this year’s Adelaide supercars event.
Four-time-Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and The Hunger Games star Lenny Kravitz will hit Pakapakanthi / Victoria Park on November 29 as the main attraction of the newly rebadged bp Adelaide Grand Final.
The Saturday night concert will be the last pit stop of Kravitz’s first Australian tour in over a decade, which will also hit arenas in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Melbourne and Mildura on his way down south.
The 61-year-old is a natural fit for the rubber-burning mini-festival, whose lineups have often leaned towards stadium-friendly legacy acts that pack plenty of volume, a hint of theatricality — and a lot of testosterone. Past headliners have included KISS, Motley Crue, Cold Chisel, The Killers, and Robbie Williams.
Along with 90s hits like ‘Are You Gonna Go My Way’, ‘Fly Away’, and ‘Let Love Rule’, Kravitz will be touring on the back of his latest record Blue Electric Light, an album whose synth-heavy singles promise plenty of dancefloor friendly moments for those preparing to hit the bitumen in November.
While the full post-race lineup has yet to be revealed, Kravitz will be joined on Saturday by Melbourne retro rockers Jet, currently riding high on the 21st anniversary of their breakthrough debut album Get Born.
Premier Peter Malinauskas broke the news on Instagram with a clip from How I Met Your Mother.
“Lenny Kravitz is a global superstar – an incredible performer who will rock the crowd on Saturday night at the track,” the premier said in a statement
“The new era of the bp Adelaide Grand Final is going to take everything you know about the bp Adelaide Grand Final and dial it up louder.”
The bp Adelaide Grand Final runs Thursday, November 27 to Sunday, November 30, with tickets on sale now. Tickets for Lenny Kravitz’s Blue Electric Light tour go on sale to the general public from Friday.
In the meantime, we can all enjoy Kravitz’s other claim to fame: as the subject of some of Architectural Digest’s most outrageously elaborate house tour videos.
