The Music of Joe Hisaishi

The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra is bringing the beloved tunes of Japanese animation composer Joe Hisaishi, who is behind classics including Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service, to life this month. Art of the Score podcasters Andrew Pogson and Dan Golding also guide the audience through the musical world of Joe Hisaishi in a love letter to Japan’s great maestro at the Festival Theatre.

Pressed Flower Lamp Making Workshop

Unleash your creativity and bring the bright blooms of the outdoors inside without all the maintenance. Learn how to press delicate flowers alongside lampshade-making techniques in this guided workshop for beginners and walk away with your own unique botanical lamp.

Cuttlefest

Until July 31

Experience one of nature’s extraordinary events as tens of thousands of Australian giant cuttlefish migrate to breed off the coast of the Eyre Peninsula.  This unique winter festival runs across June and July showcasing the fascinating marine creatures and their environment. Whyalla comes alive with markets, art exhibitions, talks, workshops and family friendly activities. Also expect unique experiences including snorkelling, diving and glass-bottom boat tours to see the spectacle up close.

Star of the stage and screen Noni Hazlehurst brings this critically acclaimed one-woman show to Adelaide. Follow Rose Grey as she says her final goodbye to the small, derelict Melbourne pub that has been the constant across her life. Written by Daniel Keene and directed by Matt Scholten, The Lark is a powerful meditation on life, loss and change, and is showing at the Space Theatre.

This National Gallery Touring Exhibition, supported by the Australian Government through Visions of Australia, is showing at the Bay Discovery Centre at Glenelg.

Dive into a world where music breaks free from convention and soundscapes defy expectation as Unsound Festival returns across three venues for Illuminate Adelaide. Expect groundbreaking experimental sound from the award-winning Hania Rani (Poland), New York-based rapper Billy Woods (US), influential composer and producer Suzanne Ciani & Actress (US & UK), LEYA (US), YHWH Nailgun (US) and many more including local artists.

A Night at the Ballet

July 24-25

Join the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra as it celebrates the music of dance at the Festival Theatre. Experience sweeping melodies, dramatic storytelling and some of the most beloved classical arrangements to have been written for the dance stage. Make the evening into a night out as ASO collaborate with Sofitel Adelaide for one night only. Expect canapes, a two-hour drinks package and an intimate conversation with The Australian Ballet’s music director Jonathan Lo and ASO’s principal cello Sharon Grigoryan on Saturday, July 25.
