What to do in SA this weekend

From the races at Clare and Oakbank to the Adelaide Easter Carnival, there is plenty to see and do across the state this Easter long weekend.

Oakbank Easter Races

April 4 & 6

This Easter, the Oakbank Racecourse is celebrating 150 years as Australia’s largest picnic racecourse. Take in an exciting, fun and colourful atmosphere, as well as the scenery from Oakbank Hill, across two days of racing. There are food and drink vendors, or you can bring your own barbecue. Tickets start from $22, and entry for kids under 16 is free.

Adelaide International Kite Festival

April 4-6

This annual event returns to the sky this Easter long weekend at Semaphore. The overhead display features an array of visuals from whales, dragons, sea creatures, superheros and exhibits from international and interstate guests. It showcases large inflatable kites, two- and four-string kites and a ground display on the sand. This year, also expect a twilight market on Good Friday featuring 45 stall holders, including food, drinks, homewares, art, jewellery, toys and even kites that can be flown in the public flying zone.

Adelaide Easter Carnival

April 2-6

Get into the Easter spirit this long weekend as the Adelaide Easter Carnival returns with something in store for the whole family. Event highlights include a fireworks show, a glow in the dark easter egg hunt and an interactive farm theme easter egg hunt to keep the kids busy for hours. The carnival also features a collection of amusement rides, bouncing castles, food trucks, market stalls, face painting, and many more fun activities to enjoy. The carnival takes place at Civic Park in Modbury, and entry is free.

Clare Easter Races

April 4

The Easter Races return to the Clare Valley Racing Club with weekend with a quality seven-race card program. Expect food vendors, local wines, Fashion At the Races, big screen coverage and more. The setting offers overnight non-powered camping for race goers as well as free shuttle buses operating across the day. This event is ticketed with prices starting at $35 for general admission, with VIP packages available.

The Palmer Sculpture Biennial 

Until April 12

A selection of exciting sculptures are on display in the Palmer Sculpture Landscape from twenty-nine incredible Australian and international artists. The sculpture exhibition is presented across a 400-acre landscape just outside of Palmer in a significant celebration of striking artistry in nature. The Biennial highlights both well-known, emerging and honoured sculptors such as German Carlotta Brunetti.

BEGINNINGS exhibition

Until November 20 

Discover how we can take action to shape the future both individually and collectively with the Museum of Discovery’s new exhibition. Explore interactive exhibits that cover topics including the origins of life and the universe, our consumer choices and behaviours and how we can transition to greener energy systems. Beginnings brings together contributions from more than 60 Adelaide University researchers.

Barossa Food & Wine Village

April 11

When Gather Round kicks off in the Barossa, the fun doesn’t stop at the final siren. Head to Tanunda, where the Barossa Food & Wine Village transforms the main street into a vibrant post-match celebration. With some of Barossa’s best food and wine, plus entertainment headlined by The Tullamarines, family friendly entertainment and footy on the big screens, there’s something for everyone whether you’re a footy fan or not.

Rivals Long Lunch

April 11

Enjoy a memorable dining experience as Osmond Terrace comes alive for a celebration of local flavours in the heart of Norwood. Hosted by Jane Reilly, guests will enjoy a carefully curated menu showcasing the state’s best produce, sourced from Food Secrets manufacturers and cooked using fresh, seasonal ingredients as two of South Australia’s top chefs—Eddie Noble and Sam Worrall-Thompson— go head-to-head for the title of Rivals Long Lunch Top Chef. Paired with drinks from local beverage producers, it’s an afternoon designed to be enjoyed, shared and remembered. Tickets are $150 and include a four-course-meal and drinks package.
