This weekend, check out Australia’s motoring history at the RAA Bay to Birdwood or experience Asian culture at OzAsia.

Tarnanthi

More than 200 works of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art will be shown at the Art Gallery of South Australia from October 17 to January 18 to celebrate a decade of Tarnanthi. Drawing from AGSA’s extensive collection, the free Too Deadly: Ten Years of Tarnanthi exhibition includes major installations and works of art by artists Tony Albert, Betty Campbell, Nyaparu (William) Gardiner, Angelina Karadada Boona and many more. Highlights of Tarnanthi are Kungka Kunpu (Strong Women) – featuring major contemporary works by women artists from the APY Lands – The Blak Laundry experimental sculptural installation in AGSA’s courtyard, the Tarnanthi Art Fair from October 17 to 18, and the Woven within Stars regional touring exhibition.

RAA Bay to Birdwood

Timeless vehicles of yesteryear are travelling the streets of Adelaide and beyond this Sunday for the RAA Bay to Birdwood motor rally. This beloved annual tradition features more than 1500 antique, classic and retro vehicles. An estimated 90,000 people will line the streets to watch the vehicles make their way from Barratt Reserve in West Beach all the way to the National Motor Museum in Birdwood. Upon arrival, you can see the motors up close at the Bay to Birdwood Finish Festival, where there are various competitions, including the Concours d’Elegance, Preservation and EV.

OzAsia

The diverse cultures of Asia will be highlighted this month as OzAsia is back with a jam-packed program from October 17 to November 9. In a festival highlight, Grammy Award-winning pianist Hiromi will join forces with the PUBLIQuartet string ensemble at Adelaide Town Hall on October 28. Other must-sees include The Special Comedy Comedy Special: Greatest Debate at Her Majesty’s Theatre on November 8, and Milestone, starring William Yang alongside Elena Kats-Chernin and Ensemble Lumen at Adelaide Town Hall on October 31. You can also taste Asian flavours at Elder Park’s Lucky Dumpling Market from October 17 to November 9, or check out the incredible, free Moon Lantern Trail at Pinky Flat/Tarntanya Wama from October 23 to 26.

Adelaide Film Festival

Grab your popcorn as the Adelaide Film Festival returns to cinemas across the city from October 15 to 26. This blockbuster festival is sure to please film buffs, with local and international premieres, red carpet events, art, talks, parties and more. The festival opened on Wednesday evening at the Capri Theatre with the Australian premiere of Jimpa by local director Sophie Hyde; this uplifting queer drama was filmed right here in South Australia and stars Olivia Colman, John Lithgow and Aud Mason-Hyde. Other highlights of the festival include Journey Home, David Gulpilil, The Colleano Heart, Penny Lane Is Dead, Edge of Life, Fwends, and It Was Just An Accident.

CheeseFest

CheeseFest, Australia’s largest cheese-dedicated celebration, returns to Rundle Park/Kadlitpina this weekend to celebrate its 20th year. CheeseFest is rolling out a record number of stalls, six dedicated cheese bars and an exclusive lounge for Champagne and cheese experiences. This season’s MasterChef winner, Laura Sharrad, and finalist Callum Hann will make appearances on the RAA Cooking Demo Stage, hosted by food icon Matt Preston.

Clare Show

The Clare Show is celebrating 160 years in 2025, returning with all the fan favourites. This includes shearing and chocolate cake making competitions, dog jumping, trade site displays, equestrianism, exhibition and pavilion displays, rides, a public speaking contest, an Autopro Ute Muster and much more. The Clare Show takes place at the Clare Showgrounds on Horrocks Highway on Saturday, October 18, from 9am to 5pm. After the official show wraps up, there’ll be the “After 5 Event” featuring food, wine, live music and Jack Russell racing, followed by the much-anticipated fireworks display.
