Make your way to the Riverland from October 10-19 for the annual Riverland Rose and Garden Festival. Held over 10 days, this festival dates back to 1994 and spans towns across the Riverland region, from Berri to Barmera, Loxton, Monash, Renmark and Waikerie. Highlights of this year’s festival include the Waikerie Flower Show, the Festival Fair, the Renmark Institute display, and the Annual Gala Dinner, which in 2025 has a Greek theme. There will also be a return of the beloved open gardens, including one in Barmera featured in the 2025 winter edition of SALIFE Gardens & Outdoor Living magazine.
Discover the latest fashion trends as the 2025 ADL Fashion Week arrives in town from October 8 to 12. Previously held over three days, the 2025 event has a jam-packed five-day program. More than 30 events are being held across Adelaide, including five runways spotlighting the latest fashion trends at The Richmond Hotel. A highlight of this year’s ADL Fashion Week is the Icons Only campaign, which acknowledges “individuals who have contributed to the rich tapestry of both the city and its fashion scene”.
Grab your popcorn as the Adelaide Film Festival returns to cinemas across the city from October 15 to 26. This blockbuster festival is sure to please film buffs, with local and international premieres, red carpet events, art, talks, parties and more. The festival will open at the Capri Theatre on October 15 with the Australian premiere of Jimpa by local director Sophie Hyde; this uplifting queer drama was filmed right here in South Australia and stars Olivia Colman, John Lithgow and Aud Mason-Hyde. Other highlights of the festival include Journey Home, David Gulpilil, The Colleano Heart, Penny Lane Is Dead, Edge of Life, Fwends, and It Was Just An Accident.
Enjoy a special night out this Friday at Breakthrough’s Gala: The Catalyst for Change. This glamorous evening is hosted by Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation on World Mental Health Day, with the aim of raising $100,000 for the launch of the non-profit’s National Catalyst Grand Round, which will unlock up to $500,000 in national mental health research funding. Expect a multi-course meal, live entertainment and an inspirational line-up of speakers. This black-tie gala is on at the SkyCity Ballroom on Friday, October 10, from 6pm.
The beauty of bonsai is on full display this month for the South Australian Bonsai Society’s annual show. Translated literally as “potted plant”, bonsai is the ancient Japanese art of growing and shaping miniature trees. This unique event is put on annually by the Bonsai Society of South Australia, which is one of the oldest bonsai societies in Australia. There is everything from bonsai displays to demonstrations, as well as the chance to purchase bonsai, plus bonsai materials, tools and pots. This event is on at Goodwood Community Centre on October 11 to 12 with gold coin entry.
Bask in South Australia’s natural beauty for the final weekend Nature Festival, which wraps up this Sunday. Now in its sixth year, this open-access festival has featured more than 400 events across the state, ranging from art to music, film, food, family activities and Aboriginal cultural events. Among the highlights of this weekend, there is an open day at Government House on Sunday from 10am to 2pm, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Adelaide Botanic Garden and ILA’s interactive exhibition, TIMELIGHT “Beyond our ticking world.
