This weekend, travel to the 171st Gawler Show or head to the Migration Museum for the Face to Face exhibition.

TAFE SA exhibition at Burnside Village

Make your way to Burnside Village this weekend for the ‘RSVP Ready’ Fashion Design Award exhibition, featuring designs from fashion and costume students at TAFE SA. Students were asked to design and create an outfit for the upcoming spring and summer season, suitable for a special occasion. Shortlisted designs will be on display until Sunday, August 31, with the top three designs announced the following Monday.

Gawler Show

Head north of Adelaide this August for the 171st Gawler Show. Dating back to 1854, this is now South Australia’s largest regional show, attracting 30,000 people. Hop on one of the thrilling rides at Sideshow Alley or have an adventure on the Treasure Trail. You can also hold a tiny chick at Nixon’s Animal Adventures, sample local produce at the Fresh Farm market, learn about dairy cattle at the Agricultural Learning Centre, or enjoy live entertainment, with a stellar line-up of local musicians. Another highlight of the Gawler Show is its various competitions, with everything from show jumping to wool contests, arts and crafts and cookery. This event takes place on August 23 and 24 at the Gawler Showgrounds on Nixon Terrace.

Face to Face at the Migration Museum

The power of intergenerational connection is highlighted in Face to Face, showing at the Migration Museum until December 31. This exhibition celebrates the unique lives and identities of aged care residents with quirky and colourful portraits. The project grew out of a series of meetings held between students and residents, with each creating a portrait based on their interpretation of the conversation. The artworks were made using mixed media techniques and incorporate symbols, images, colours and textures. This free exhibition includes both visual and audio elements and is presented by the History Trust of South Australia in partnership with Southern Cross Care and SALA.

Touching the Divine at AGSA

As the birthplace of many of the world’s major religions, including Buddhism and Hinduism, Asia’s impact on spirituality has stretched well beyond the continent’s borders. This impact will be highlighted in Touching the Divine: Love and devotion in Asian art, which will be on display in galleries 19 to 21 of the Art Gallery of South Australia’s Lower Melrose Wing until November 23. This exhibition explores the depiction of love and devotion in sacred Asian art. You can expect to see artworks demonstrating the importance of light to Islamic mysticism, the confluence of religions in the Mughal Empire, depictions of the Hindu deity Krishna, and the worship of goddesses in Hinduism.
