This weekend, relive Nina Simone’s classic hits at Her Majesty’s Theatre in a special tribute from her daughter, or head to the Willunga Almond Blossom Festival.

Nina Simone at Her Majesty’s Theatre

Combing poignant lyrics with a powerhouse voice, Nina Simone gave us some of the most soulful hits of the 1960s. Known for blending styles such as classical, folk, gospel, blues, jazz, R&B and pop, Nina Simone was a trailblazing singer-songwriter, pianist and civil rights activist. For one night only, Nine Simone’s daughter, Lisa, will honour her mother’s legacy in Lisa Simone: A Daughter’s Tribute to Nina Simone. Lisa will perform hits from throughout Nina Simone’s career, including I Put a Spell on You, Feeling Good, Black Is the Colour (of My True Love’s Hair) and Mississippi Goddam. This concert will take place at Her Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday, July 26.

Willunga Almond Blossom Festival

The Willunga Almond Blossom Festival celebrates the flowering of the beautiful pale pink almond blossom, which appears from July to early August. Taking place in the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula Town of Willunga, this family-friendly event is held at Willunga Recreation Park on July 26 and 27. Highlights include a spectacular fireworks show on the Saturday night, a famous almond cracking competition, an almond-inspired cookery competition, live music performances, a variety of bric-a-brac market stalls, show rides, camel and pony rides and much more. Entry to the Willunga Almond Blossom Festival is $25 for families, while entry for children under five is free.

Blue Sky Theatre’s Arrivals and Departures

Barry Hawkins (played by Nick Fagan) is an ordinary traffic warden thrust into an extraordinary situation when he finds himself at the centre of a complex anti-terrorist sting. Directed by Dave Simms and written by acclaimed British playwright Alan Ayckbourn, Arrivals and Departures stars Nick alongside Emily Currie as Private Esmé “Ez” Swain and Zoe Battersby and Millie Fagan in various roles, as well as an ensemble cast of 10. Presented by Blue Sky Theatre, the dramedy will be performed at the Domain Theatre in the Marion Cultural Centre from July 25 to August 3.

Winter Reds 2025

Adelaide Hills wineries and cellar doors will come alive this weekend for the annual Winter Reds festival, offering a bumper program of more than 50 events right across the region. The event fits into three different types of experiences, starting with Tour + Taste, which offers casual tastings with food and music, perfect for visiting a few wineries in one day. Then, for the wine explorers, there’s the Cosy Classes category of expert-hosted wine tasting flights. And finally, Fire + Feast offers sit-down lunch and dinner affairs, often over multiple courses in the warmth of winery restaurants. Winter Reds takes place July 25 to 27.

Clare Valley Trail Run

Following the success of the inaugural Clare Valley Trail Run in 2024, the race is back for a second year. Hosted by the Adelaide Trail Runners, this event is the perfect way to discover this world-famous wine region, known for its award-winning riesling and shiraz wines. This fun run is open to runners of all abilities, whether you choose to run 10, 25 or 50 kilometres. This year, there will also be an option for those who want to walk or hike the trail. The Clare Vallery Trail Run takes place on Saturday, July 26.

National Tree Day

Australians of all ages are encouraged to plant a tree this July as part of Planet Ark’s National Tree Day. Since its inception in 1996, the nationwide scheme has seen five million volunteers plant some 28 million trees around the country, helping to rejuvinate barren areas and to create a healthier planet. This Sunday, July 27, more than 300,000 volunteers will aim to plant a million trees for National Tree Day. School-aged children are also encouraged to take part in Schools Tree Day on July 25, with thousands of schools throughout Australia organising activities ranging from planting tucker gardens to building habitats for native wildlife and more.
