This weekend, head to Adelaide Oval as a combined Australian and New Zealand rugby team take on the British & Irish Lions, or make your way to Her Majesty’s Theatre for Kimberly Akimbo.

British & Irish Lions at Adelaide Oval

Australia and New Zealand will join forces for the first time in three decades this Saturday, July 12 at Adelaide Oval as they take on the British & Irish Lions. Playing exclusively in Adelaide, the revived ANZAC XV team will be made up of players from the Wallabies and the All Blacks. Meanwhile, the British & Irish Lions, which dates back to 1888, will be captained by England’s lock, Maro Itoje, and is comprised of 38 players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The rugby union team will be touring around Australia, with matches also in Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

Kimberly Akimbo at Her Majesty’s Theatre

It’s 1999 in New Jersey, and Kimberly is not like other girls her age. Born with a rare genetic condition, she ages at four times the rate of an average human. So, when her criminal aunt, Debra, shows up with a somewhat dubious money-making scheme, Kimberly decides she has nothing to lose. Kimberly Akimbo is set to music by Jeanie Tesori (composer of the music from Shrek), with the story and lyrics written by David Lidnay-Abaire. Directed by Mitchell Butel, this Broadway musical stars Marina Prior, Casey Donovan, Nathan O’Keefe and Christie Whelan Browne and will make its Australian debut at Her Majesty’s Theatre until 19.

Showing at the State Library of South Australia until October 5, this exhibition explores the impact of the space age on Australia, covering cutting-edge research, design, television and more. Highlights include installations telling the history of the Woomera Rocket Range and how futuristic architecture influenced Australia’s pavilion at the Expo ’70 world fair.
