This June long weekend, experience world-class performers at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival or head to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre to hear the ASO recreate the Harry Potter score live.

Adelaide Cabaret Festival

Enjoy some of the best performers from around the globe from June 5 to 21 for the 25th Adelaide Cabaret Festival. This annual extravaganza features 77 performances at both Her Majesty’s Theatre and the Adelaide Festival Centre. Highlights include performances by award-winning musician, composer and producer Jacob Collier and the world premiere of The Story of Me by Jessica Mauboy. “We’re celebrating with beloved stars, both local and international, who have helped make and shape our legacy, and we’re introducing you to the trailblazers for the next 25 years,” says the festival’s artistic director, Virginia Gay.

ASO performs Harry Potter

Hop aboard the Hogwarts Express and head to the Wizarding World as the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra presents Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 in Concert. The seventh instalment in the Harry Potter film series follows Harry, Ron and Hermione as they set out to find and destroy the source of Lord Voldemort’s immortality – the Horcruxes. This performance will see Jessica Gethin conduct the ASO as they perform Alexandre Desplat’s score live while the entire film plays in HD on a 40-foot screen in the background. The concert takes place at 7pm this Saturday at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Winter Conversation Series at Government House

Government House will open its gates for the 2025 Winter Conversation Series, featuring thought-provoking conversations between prominent South Australians and Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, the 36th Governor of South Australia. On June 6, Taboo Period Products co-founder Eloise Hall and Stone and Chalk’s Ben Colley will speak about entrepreneurialism in South Australia. Bookings are essential.

Sharkskin SA IRB Series 2025

The best surf lifesavers in South Australia will be crowned in the coming months as part of the Sharkskin SA IRB Series 2025. The Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) racing competition is a chance for drivers and crews to put their lifesaving skills to the test, with races simulating real life rescue situations. Competitors will navigate buoys as they pick up a member of their team in the water and bring them to safety on the shore. This Saturday’s round will be hosted at Beachport in the lead-up to the finale on July 6.

Riverland Paddling Marathon

Plan a daytrip for the Riverland Paddling Marathon. Hosted by the Marathon Canoe Club since 1988, this annual event features six paddling marathons across the June long weekend. Races range from a three-day, 208-kilometre continuous paddle from Berri to Morgan to a 26-kilometre single-day paddle from Devlins Pound to Waikerie, and mini marathons of 11 to 12 kilometres. This event will feature everything from international crafts to recreational canoes and kayaks, surf skis and outriggers. The Riverland Paddling Marathon takes place from June 7 to 9.

Join Phil Hoffmann Travel as it unveils “Unlock the Magic of Japan, Vietnam & Cambodia” as part of its new Destinations Series. Discover insider tips, cultural insights and exclusive travel deals and plan your next holiday to South East Asia. These information sessions will start on June 10 from 10.30am at the Victor Harbor Bowling Club, followed by sessions at Glenelg SkyDeck, PHT Norwood Branch, Hyde Park Branch, Modbury Branch and Stirling Branch. Frank Bauer and Margie Sheppard at BMG Art

Head to BMG Art on Halifax Street for the contemporary art gallery’s latest exhibition, with works by designer and metalworker Frank Bauer and painter and printmaker Margie Sheppard. Frank’s part of the installation, Metal, features metal and light works. “Light isn’t just a tool – it’s a material with its own behaviour, it’s own will. I work with it, not against it,” explains Frank. Meanwhile, Margie’s installation, titled Arrangements in Space, features wood block prints and large abstract paintings. This exhibition takes place from June 13 until July 5.
