The troupe blends jaw-dropping acrobatics with gleeful absurdity in a show that refuses to be taken seriously. ★★★★

Though the entry music is energetic, you could be forgiven for assuming Laser Kiwi: Everybody Knows is a simple, unassuming comedy show. That is, until you’re greeted by the almost inconceivable visual of handstand being performed on a DJ deck. That sight alone makes the insanity ahead of you a lot easier to grasp and, though impressively absurd right from the jump, it won’t be the biggest surprise you see. Not by a long shot.
Cycling through various stunts and bits, early on you’re told it’s in your best interest to ‘try not to think too hard. It’s not going to happen.’ They deliver on this tenfold. From acrobatic feats where the human body is made to resemble the iconic vortex toy, to juggling sets so fast and fluid you’re breathless, Laser Kiwi’s uncanny capacity for silliness amid astonishing athleticism is on full display in this 60-minuite set.
The time flies, only just allowing a minute to recognise you’re witnessing something that’s half game show, half hysterical giggling sleepover. Even when the crowd is supposed to be a little more critical on a plea to ‘bop’ a button after every stunt (if you know, you know), it’s no use: the show is simply too impressive to go long without attracting rounds of raucous applause. A high-flying demonstration of skill and hair-raisingly funny stage craft, Everybody Knows delivers on its promise to have you bouncing with energy, long after they’ve left the stage.
Laser Kiwi – Everybody Knows is playing at The Paragon at The Garden of Unearthly Delights from March 12 – 22
