The Helpmann Academy InReview Mentorship is a joint venture between Helpmann Academy and InReview, that seeks to develop the next generation of arts reviewers and rebuild the practice of robust discourse and analysis of South Australian performing and visual arts.

The mentoring program – now in its fifth year – connects experienced arts writers with emerging voices to strengthen editorial coverage of arts and culture in South Australia.

Sarah recently completed a Bachelor of Journalism and Professional Writing & Bachelor of Arts (Creative Writing and Literature) at the University of South Australia, and she now works at the Yorke Peninsula Country Times, covering a range of topics for its weekly newspaper, as well as participating in its biannual magazine and social media channels.

Sarah interned and freelanced with Solstice Media in 2023, where she wrote articles covering Miss Saigon’s Adelaide run, new dining destination Via Vai, emerging nightlife phenomenon Club Broadway, and regional celebration Auburn Frenchfest. In 2024, she contributed to international publication Fest Magazine, and the University of South Australia’s On The Record in 2022.

Now taking the next step in her writing career, Sarah will be mentored by esteemed writer and editor Jane Llewellyn throughout the mentorship. She will review a diverse range of creative events across Illuminate Adelaide, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, State Theatre and State Opera seasons, UKARIA concerts, and Art Gallery of South Australia exhibitions. Sarah enjoys creating spirited storytelling, and is eager to implement this at InReview.

“I love the Australian arts industry and I am passionate about developing my skills to honour it and bolster its place in journalism and this country,” Sarah said.
