Psychic medium John Edward is heading back Down Under where the audiences are welcoming and the chocolate is delicious.
How does John Edward prepare to face his audiences? This American psychic medium, author and lecturer with a global audience is touring Australia later in the year, kicking off in Sydney on October 26 and touring extensively including to Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Adelaide.
He likes Australia because his audiences are welcoming and because, well, we have the best chocolate.
What has chocolate got to do with it? Well, that’s what he eats in preparation for one of his events. He doesn’t call them shows because what he does is not showbiz, he insists. The television program that made him famous globally, Crossing Over with John Edward, wasn’t really just a TV program.
“I told people – we’re not doing a TV show,” he says. “This is not a performance.”
When I ask him how he prepares to connect with other dimensions and the great beyond at one of his events I expect, at first, for him to tell me about some ethereal meditation session, deep breathing or some other esoteric methodology. Nope.
“My preparation is to limit food about 45 minutes beforehand,” Edward says while on a whistlestop publicity tour ahead of his return in October. “Then I will have chocolate or caffeine. In Australia I love Cadbury chocolate. I sometimes say my Australian tour is sponsored by them.”
It’s not, but we get the picture.
Edward, 55, is a trailblazer in the realm of psychic phenomena, known for his candid, insightful and thought-provoking approach. He has dedicated more than three decades to helping thousands of people with his extraordinary ability to predict future events and connect with those who have passed on. His approach is deeply relatable, occasionally humorous and consistently compelling, earning him a dedicated following worldwide.
In 2000, Edward redefined the psychic phenomena genre with Crossing Over with John Edward, a groundbreaking television series on the American SyFy network. It was the first program of its kind to be syndicated worldwide, airing for four successful seasons. Edward continued his success with John Edward Cross Country, which premiered on the WE network in the US in 2006 and ran for three seasons, further cementing his place as a leading figure in psychic mediumship.
A respected author, Edward has penned several critically acclaimed New York Times Bestsellers, including One Last Time, Crossing Over: The Stories Behind the Stories, What if God Were the Sun, After Life: Answers from the Other Side, Practical Praying: Using the Rosary to Enhance Your Life, Final Beginnings, Infinite Quest and Fallen Masters.
In 2011, Edward expanded his reach globally by launching a digital network offering real-time content and creating the online community, Evolve. In 2023 Evolve evolved into Evolve Plus, a social media platform that includes live readings, interviews and content on metaphysical lifestyle topics.
Raised on Long Island, New York, in a Catholic household, his psychic abilities were apparent from an early age, with family members often remarking on his uncanny knowledge of past events and family history. His abilities, accepted as normal in his household, flourished as he grew older. After a life-changing encounter with psychic Lydia Clar, Edward realised his life’s purpose: to teach others about the world of psychic phenomena and offer comfort by reconnecting people with loved ones on the “other side”.
Like anyone, I’m keen to know what’s on the other side and if it exists. It does exist, Edward insists, but he can’t tell me exactly what it’s like.
“I feel it would be remiss of me to say what it’s like,” he says. “But I know it’s there. And I know it’s a place where we have friends and family and people who we will be reunited with.”
Not just people, either. Having lost a beloved pet last year, I’m interested when he tells me a story about talking to a journalist who has also lost a fur child.
“All the time I was talking to her I kept getting this name Boomer,” he says. “It just kept coming up and I had no idea what it meant. At the end of our chat she mentioned she had lost her dog and its name was Boomer.”
I mention that I still sometimes see our beloved pup Sarge and Edward relays back to me the exact conditions under which this happens – dozing on the bed. Whether that’s just intuition or not he nails it. This is the sort of work he does with large audiences and he has been coming to Australia to do this once or twice a year for the past two decades.
“I love it here,” he says. And audiences seem to love him back and they pack out his events (not shows) each time. After his chocolate or caffeine fix, he takes to the stage like some jazz improviser, unsure of what will happen next.
“I was talking to a singer and I said – you know what songs you are going to sing and you’ve sung these songs before,” he says. “I have to show up like a piano in tune but I don’t know what it will play. I surrender my ego and see what happens. The potential is mind-blowing.”
Sceptics tend to disagree but his fans take it on faith that he is the real thing and he’s a very down-to-earth kind of guy.
He lives on Long Island in New York State with his wife, Sandra, their two children, Justin and Olivia, and their two dogs, Sydney and Lucky.
