You feel fine. But when was the last time you took a closer look at your health?

Today’s health-conscious consumers want more control over their healthcare choices, including access to preventative health assessments and early detection options.

Wellness Imaging at Jones Radiology is designed for people who feel well but want to better understand their health risks and support informed conversations with their GP.

Why consider Wellness Imaging?

Some health conditions, including heart disease and certain cancers, can develop quietly over time. Wellness Imaging may help you:

  • assess your personal health risk
  • detect changes earlier
  • support prevention strategies
  • gain reassurance where appropriate.

Jones Radiology Managing Partner, Dr Mitchell Raeside explains that while government-funded screening programs do exist for specific cancers and populations, some people may not meet the criteria for these programs.

“Targeted imaging may be useful in early detection of abnormalities, determining risk and guiding further testing or treatment to proactively manage health risks,” he said.

What health concerns can I check?

Wellness Imaging covers a range of concerns, from heart, brain and lung health to body composition and bone health via a bone mineral density (BMD) scan.

Two non-invasive scans can help assess your cardiac risk. A Calcium Score is a low-dose CT scan that measures calcium build-up in the heart arteries to estimate your ten-year heart risk. A CT Coronary Angiogram (CTCA) is a more detailed scan of the coronary arteries that can detect plaque narrowing or blocking blood flow, and includes a Calcium Score.

“Lung cancer is often diagnosed too late. For some individuals at increased risk who don’t qualify for the national screening program, a low-dose CT chest scan may detect early changes before symptoms appear,” Dr Raeside said.

CT scans can help assess your cardiac risk and may detect lung conditions before symptoms appear.

One in six Australian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and a PSA blood test doesn’t always tell the full story. A Prostate MRI may help clarify risk and guide next steps.

Dense breast tissue can make early detection of breast cancer more difficult. For women with dense breasts or a family history of the disease, an Abbreviated Breast MRI can offer additional insight alongside routine screening.

Curious about what’s happening inside your body, even when you feel well? Whole Body MRI offers a broad overview of multiple organ systems in a single scan, with no radiation exposure. It won’t detect all cancers and may identify incidental findings that require further investigation. Body Composition imaging measures fat, muscle and bone, helping you understand your strength and resilience as you age.

Jones Radiology Wellness Imaging covers a range of concerns, from heart, brain and lung health to body composition and bone health.

Who might consider these Wellness scans?

You might consider Jones Wellness Imaging if you:

  • are over 40 and interested in preventative health
  • have a family history of certain conditions
  • have risk factors such as high cholesterol or diabetes
  • want a clearer picture of your health as you age.

Your GP can help determine whether a scan is right for you and provide a required referral.
