SALIFE’s fashion editor Emma Riemersma takes us behind the runway at Adelaide Fashion Week’s Mariam Seddiq show.

The noise is deafening with 50 people talking at once, running through last-minute details, the room is alive with nervous energy and excitement. Then comes the call, “Shhhh.” The room falls silent and the music starts.

Suddenly, months of planning, problem solving, creativity and collaboration come together in a few minutes of transcendent fashion.

From the outside, a runway show can look effortless.

Model walks, the music plays, the lights hit, and the clothes take centre stage. But standing just behind the curtain, you see the hundreds of decisions and countless hours that make that moment possible.

The Mariam Seddiq Luxury Runway Showcase at Adelaide Fashion Week 2026 was about creating an experience, one that celebrated Australian design, local creative talent and the incredible possibilities that happen when the fashion community comes together with a shared vision, the girls shared.

The showcase was created, conceived and produced by Rebecca Lawrence and Letitia Fitzpatrick from The Models and Brigette Mitchell from Finesse Models Australia. Having spent years working within the fashion industry, their vision was to create a showcase that allowed guests to experience the world of Mariam Seddiq inside the State Library of South Australia’s Mortlock Chamber.

With its incredible architecture, history and grandeur, it provided a backdrop that matched the drama, craftsmanship and individuality of Mariam’s collections. The space didn’t just hold the show it became part of the story.

I worked closely with Mariam throughout the creative process. I had the privilege of leading the styling of the runway showcase, understanding Mariam’s vision, respecting the identity of her designs and creating with her a runway story that allowed each piece to be seen, felt and experienced, framed with dramatic details of statement earrings, luxury hosiery, gloves and headbands.

Monochrome by Mariam Seddiq explores the intersection of fashion and art, presenting a refined vision of modern dressing through sculptural forms and considered craftsmanship. More than 30 looks designed for the contemporary woman, this collection transcends seasons as it celebrates a powerful femininity, built on confidence, intention and individuality. Each piece reflects Mariam’s ongoing pursuit of fashion as an artistic medium, where structure, fluidity and sophistication is balanced with self-expression.

The collection plays with texture, contrast and movement, sharp tailoring is softened by sheer layers, fluid silhouettes, faux leather accents and meticulous detailing. Her original artworks are transformed into expressive prints that bring a personal and emotional signature to the designs.

For Mariam Seddiq, bringing the showcase to Adelaide was an opportunity to step outside the traditional runway circuit.

“Adelaide chose us,” Mariam shared. “They invited us, and we thought, why not go on that adventure? It was an opportunity to meet current and future clients, connect with new talent and be part of the South Australian fashion industry. It was something different for the brand rather than the usual Melbourne and Sydney runway showcases, and we enjoyed every minute of the adventure.”
