When I was invited to dip my toe into Australian Fashion Week in Sydney for a few days last week, I jumped at it. Trips like these fill my creative cup, and I love experiencing Australian fashion firsthand; its iconic designers set against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour and the Museum of Contemporary Art. In a world increasingly formed by screens and AI, being in the room for moments like these feels nothing short of magical.

Toni Maticevski

The Toni Maticevski showcase was held in the Collider, an incredible circular space. After a 10-year hiatus, Maticevski poured his heart onto the runway with his deeply creative, experimental, architectural designs with waves of airy sheer organza floating like leaves. It was pure escapism for the heart and soul. As a woman of a certain age, it was inspiring to see women walking the runway of varied ages and sizes celebrated like iconic model Gemma Ward. Every detail felt intentional, as a fashion show should.

Carla Zampatti

The Harbour at night set the scene for Carla Zampatti’s incredible runway on the boardwalk of the Park Hyatt, with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge as a backdrop. The DNA of Carla Zampatti lived on through the silhouettes and fabrications, reimagined with a fresh approach that featured elegant black pieces adorned with shimmering sequins, touches of acid green and shades of mauve.

Aje

Aje stays true to itself, once again showcasing its signature ruffles and beautiful silhouettes that celebrate an feminine and elevated style that always feel accesable. Unveiling the Resort 27 collection SIREN, drenched in soft rose hues of the venue creating the perfect canvas for their fluid forms. That softness is balanced with added structure through leather, sequins, and textured finishes that bring movement and edge to every look a love song to contrasts. The collection draws inspiration from the Australian landscape, reflected in its earthy yet luminous colour palette.
