Fringe review: Fountain Lakes – Y2K
This glittery prequel to Kath And Kim rewinds to 1999 for a camp-filled celebration of ‘90s pop culture. ★★★★
Remember the pains of dial-up internet, when Blue Heelers, Hey Hey It’s Saturday and Agro’s Cartoon Connection dominated free-to-air television? Then Fountain Lakes: Y2K is for you, a drag comedy show based on beloved Australian television sitcom Kath And Kim. This prequel is set in 1999 and explores how Kath, Kim and Sharon became the iconic characters they are today.
There’s something for everyone as Kath, Kim and Sharon treat the crowd to ‘beautiful’ music and ‘fabulous’ dance routines from the show and the era that will soon have you joining in. These foxy ladies know how to serve: their dazzling costumes and big, bold and colourful make-up is everything you’d expect to see in a show packed with hilarious throwbacks to the original show, with a few other iconic characters popping in for a visit.
