Space Invaders is a queer solo stand-up comedy set that fires on all cylinders. Packed with zingers and delivered with intelligence, this is comedy that respects its audience enough not to dumb anything down.

Nicola Brown is sharp as a tack, taking command of the room with ease to pivot between punchlines and pointed insights, maintaining a buoyant energy to keep the laughs consistently rolling. What shines brightest is the wit behind the humour. Brown’s material is confidently queer without ever feeling exclusionary and always smart, wittily observed and disarmingly self-aware.

This is a show that deserves better audience numbers than it seems to be getting; Adelaide, this is one to get behind because it’s definitely a ‘catch it now, before everyone else’ kind of show. Beat the algorithm and follow the stars to Space Invaders: they’re aligning very nicely.

Space Invaders continues at The Howling Owl until February 28
