Tod Talks is a masterclass in controlled chaos and, make no mistake, the structure underpinning this show is absolutely impeccable. The premise is simple: a comedian is invited to give a presentation on a topic they know nothing about, supported by a slide show they’ve never seen. The team clearly know exactly what they’re doing and execute with the kind of quiet precision that makes the whole machine hum. This is tight producing disguised as loose, joyful, improvised mayhem, and it works beautifully.

At the helm, Owen Merriman steers his merry crew of loose units like a true Victorian captain guiding a prized vessel through unpredictable waters. Calm, assured, and always ready to pivot, he keeps the energy buoyant without ever letting things drift too far off course; confident leadership that gives the show its backbone.

Of course, the wildcard here is the line-up and the experience lives or dies on the night’s performers. Fortunately, the session reviewed delivered a cracker group of improv masters who understood the assignment and ran with it. Quick-thinking, playful, and gloriously unafraid to swing big, they kept the audience locked in from start to finish. When it clicks like this, TOD Talks is sharp, slick, and seriously entertaining.

TOD Talks is playing at The Gosling at Gluttony from February 20 March 1
