Poem: Fog

Fog

A fog burdens my view.

Sometimes my mind too

waiting for the sun to lift the haze

warming the valley to my gaze.

Occasionally a flock twitters about

landing on branches to scout

mindless chatter

warnings to scatter.

How the mind can wander,

thoughts of moments, fonder,

spiralling over the past

hoping not to last.

Two curly chocolate dogs

lying comfortably as logs

twitching in a state of dream

paws running along a stream.

Smoke plumes from rooftops

fading into the hilltops.

I imagine roaring fire places,

an image the mind chases.

Originally from South Australia’s Limestone Coast city of Mount Gambier, Lara Dunstone lives in regional Victoria. In presenting her third contribution to Poet’s Corner today, Lara has said how poetry inspiration of recent times has come from the widely acclaimed, uniquely different, 30-episode streaming TV series Dickinson, about groundbreaking American poet Emily Dickinson, 1830‒1886.

Readers’ original and unpublished poems of up to 40 lines can be emailed, with postal address, to [email protected]. Submissions should be in the body of the email, not as attachments. A poetry book will be awarded to each accepted contributor.
