Welcome to SALIFE’s Christmas issue for 2026 – full of styling, food and fashion tips for the festive season.
Now, I love traditional Christmas colours, tinsel and all, but there’s something so special about taking the setting for the feast in a different direction.
In that story, we celebrate colour, summer and nature – all wonderful things to stretch across a table shared with loved ones.
Speaking of our dinner party series, this month, the effervescent Lucy Damin invited us over to see her stunning Adelaide Hills home, where she hosted a group of friends on the lawns and beside the pool.
Lucy is a busy woman – a demanding career, two little boys and now owner of Plus One Dress Hire, she relishes in time spent at home and, with the help of her mum, she’s whipped up some family recipes.
Keeping the festivities going, we’ve asked some high-profile South Australians about their Christmas plans and traditions. I loved reading about the Christmas memories of food icon Maggie Beer. As for this year, she will be at home with her immediate family, and maybe a few extras. Lunch is under a beautiful tree in her yard and the food, of course, is the star. “When it comes to the food, I always say that good food doesn’t have to be extravagant – it just has to be well chosen and cooked with love and full of flavour,” Maggie says.
The sentiment is shared by Rosa Matto, who has shared some of her recipes that may require preparation in the days leading to Christmas, but they’ll leave you with much more time to be spent with your guests once the day arrives.
Then, we wander through two very different, but equally enticing homes. The first is the home of interior designer Stuart Seekamp, and his husband, Shane. It’s a design-lover’s dream.
Shane may joke that Stuart is a maximalist, but every detail he injects sits in aesthetic harmony in this 1960s solid brick home.
We head to Coffin Bay for the Mediterranean-inspired home of a prominent Eyre Peninsula fishing family. This one pays deep respect to its surroundings in the most beautiful way.
Because we’re well and truly into the season of celebrating, we’ve asked the mixologist from one of our favourite bars – Latteria on Hutt Street – to shake up some cocktails for the long, warm nights that stretch ahead. And sip them in style with fashion editor Emma Riemersma’s party looks for this season.
If you’re more of a wine drinker, Tony Love’s lengthy list of must-try drops has you covered. Cheers to that.
