The Barossa Council is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors as the 2026 AFL Gather Round returns, bringing with it major economic opportunity and a packed calendar of local events.

Following a successful 2025 debut, the region will again host two AFL matches at Barossa Park in Lyndoch. North Melbourne will face Brisbane on Saturday, April 11, followed by GWS and Richmond on Sunday, April 12.
The return comes after a strong statewide result last year, with Gather Round attracting 54,000 interstate visitors to South Australia, generating $8.1 million for the local Barossa economy and an accommodation occupancy rate of 97 per cent.
The Barossa Council is building on that momentum this year by rolling out a program of support designed to help local businesses, venues and community groups make the most of the increased visitation.
A key part of this approach includes targeted grants for hospitality venues in Lyndoch to deliver live entertainment and activations before and after games. The initiative aims to extend the visitor experience beyond match time and encourage people to stay longer across the region.
Council is also supporting a broader suite of Festival of Footy events, including Lyndoch Live & Local, Barossa Food and Wine Village, Barossa Makers & Beyond Market, Bounce Around the Barossa and a range of community activations linked to the AFL fixtures.
Mayor Bim Lange said the event continues to deliver strong outcomes for the region.
“This event is more than just great food and wine; it’s about economic opportunity for our local community as Gather Round puts Barossa on the national stage,” he said.
A series of live music and local activations will also take place in Lyndoch across the weekend, adding to the festival atmosphere around Barossa Park.
Lyndoch Live & Local highlights include:
The Barossa Food & Wine Village will again serve as a centrepiece of the weekend, transforming Tanunda’s Murray Street into a large-scale street party following the Saturday match.
Building on an attendance of 7000 people in 2025, this year’s event will expand its footprint, bringing together local food and wine producers, traders and entertainment in an open-access setting.
Visitors can expect a mix of Barossa wines, local food offerings and live entertainment, with traders extending onto the street and pop-up vendors adding to the atmosphere. Large screens will broadcast live AFL matches, while a dedicated children’s zone will feature footy activities, giveaways and SANFL Central District player appearances.

Live music by The Tullamarines will headline the evening, supported by local performers and DJ Alex Hosking, creating a festival environment that runs well into the night.
Mayor Lange said the expanded program reflects strong community and industry support.
“The feedback from last year gave us even more reason to go bigger with this activation, and that’s exactly what we’ve done,” he said.
“We want every visitor, whether they’re a die-hard footy fan or first-time Barossa explorer, to leave with a full glass, a full belly and an even deeper love for our region.”
Beyond the main events, activities will take place across the Barossa throughout the weekend, encouraging visitors to explore beyond the stadium.
The Barossa Visitor Centre will operate as a central hub from Friday, April 10 to Sunday, April 12, offering travel information, local insights and access to activities across the region.
Family-friendly experiences will run throughout the weekend, including scavenger hunts and footy skills challenges designed to engage visitors of all ages.
The Bounce Around the Barossa bus is also set to return, making it easy and cost effective for people to travel to and from key locations and events. The bus proved successful in 2025, with more than 4000 people using the service across four days.
Transport options have further been expanded for 2026, with buses running between Lyndoch and Tanunda after games, along with return services from Barossa Food & Wine Village to Gawler to connect with train services.
Together, these events create an experience that supports local businesses and encourages visitors to spend more time in the Barossa.
With strong backing from Council, local industry and community partners, Gather Round 2026 is set to deliver another boost to the region’s economy while showcasing the Barossa to a national audience.
