It was South Australia’s pollies and journos turn to don their finery for the annual SA Mid Winter Charity Ball on the weekend – and they partied so hard the white and red wine ran dry. Click through our photo gallery.
Luckily, joint organiser, media personality and new Mum Stacey Lee said there was plenty of sparkling to keep glasses filled.
Premier Peter Malinauskas and his wife Annabel, along with Opposition Leader Vincent Tarzia were among the glamorous crowd at the Chatham Rules event that raised more than $100,000 for two local charities.
Lee remained tight-lipped about the content of the evening’s festivities organised by the SA Press Gallery but said it was an “almighty effort to get everyone in the room for a night of bipartisanship”.
“Seeing members of the media and people from both sides of politics mingling and getting along is rare, but it’s great to be able to do it once a year,” she said.
“I just wish I could tell you what was said on the night… but Chatham House rules.”
This year, Backpacks for SA Kids and Lion Hearts Learning were the recipients of funds raised.
“The hardest part about organising the event is picking which charities to support,” Lee said.
“We always ensure they are run by local South Australians for the South Australian community…. and we also prefer to support organisations which don’t get any government funding.
“Often, they need the extra funds most and being there on the night is a good opportunity to meet the state’s decision makers and media identities to help them with future funding and news coverage.”
Australia’s federal parliament held its own MidWinter Ball a few weeks ago. The SA Mid Winter Charity Ball has been running since 2012 and during that time has raised more than $750,000 for SA charities.
