Long-serving BHP CEO Mike Henry will step down on July 1, 2026, after six and a half years in the role.

He will be replaced by Brandon Craig, who brings more than 25 years of operational and corporate leadership experience at BHP to the top job.

The announcement of Henry’s departure was a long time coming, with rumours about who his replacement might be swirling over the past year.

Henry turned BHP into the world’s largest copper producer during his tenure, with a big focus placed on the company’s enormous copper mine at Roxby Downs.

More than half of the company’s recent half-year earnings were sourced from copper. Previously, the company was generating the bulk of its earnings from iron ore.

Henry said it was a “privilege to serve as CEO of BHP and to have worked with so many truly talented people”.

“I am proud of what we have achieved together,” he said.

“BHP is a safer and higher performing company and is better positioned for future growth.

“Brandon is an excellent choice as CEO, and I wish him every success in the role.”

Craig is currently BHP’s President Americas, leading the company’s commodities operations in Canada, the United States and South America.

Previously, he led BHP’s Western Australia iron ore business.

Shares in BHP were up 0.3 per cent in early trade today.
