Wine leader set to retire

Treasury Wine Estates, which owns several top SA wine brands including Penfolds, has announced chief financial and strategy officer Stuart Boxer is set to retire by the end of September.

Boxer joined Treasury Wines as chief strategy and corporate development officer in 2020 before his appointment as chief financial and strategy officer in 2023.

In his executive roles at the estate, Boxer was responsible for leading strategic business planning, commercial investment strategy and mergers and acquisitions.

He has also served as chief financial officer for DuluxGroup, Southern Cross Broadcasting Australia and as finance director for Village Roadshow’s film production division.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Stuart for his service over the past six years, and in particular for his help in ensuring my smooth transition into the business,” Treasury Wines CEO Sam Fischer said.

New chair of Clare Valley Wine and Grape Association

The Clare Valley Wine and Grape Association (CVWGA) has announced Olivia Hoffmann-Barry has been appointed as chair of the board.

Hoffmann-Barry has more than 15 years’ experience in the wine industry, where she has served as the director of marketing communications of Jim Barry Wines.

In the role, she has managed branding, packaging and promotional strategy to strengthen the brands domestic and export markets.

She has served three two-year terms on the CVWGA board, including two as vice chair, and has been a representative for the Clare Valley on the South Australian Wine Industry Association executive committee since 2019.

“Her leadership and advocacy will help guide the Clare Valley into its next chapter, one that builds on our heritage while confidently embracing the future,” CVWGA executive officer Cherry Stowman said.

Civil construction peak body appoints new director of training

The state’s peak body for the civil construction industry Civil Contractors Federation SA has appointed Zac Slade to the role of director of training.

Slade is an experienced leader across the construction, mining and civil industries, where he has provided strategy development, employee training and corporate governance.

In the role at CCFSA, Slade will oversee their training course that develops more than 400 apprentices and more than 3000 short course participants each year.

He has previously worked as the director of operations at the Australian Heritage Services and as operations manager for CCFSA’s apprenticeship services provider Civil Apprenticeship and Careers Limited.

“Zac has been appointed to the role with an already deep knowledge of CCFSA and the civil construction industry, which positions him well to support our members and the industry at a time of record investment in major infrastructure projects,” CCFSA CEO Jessica Tucker said.

Independent chair joins Sustainable Winegrowing Australia

Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA) has announced the appointment of Siobhan Toohill as its independent chair.

Toohill’s role at SWA will assist in strengthening oversight, responsiveness and long-term impact across the Australian grape and wine sector.

As independent chair, Toohill will play a central role in the oversight of board and executive officer selection and deliver practical and cost-effective solutions for Australian grape growers and winemakers.

She is an experienced executive leader in sustainability strategy and risk management, having previously served as the chief sustainability officer for Westpac in Sydney.

“Her expertise in sustainability leadership and system transformation will be invaluable as the program enters this next phase of governance maturity and strategic impact,” Australian Grape and Wine CEO Lee McLean said.

Homer’s odyssey to KBR

Homer Milanes has joined engineering company KBR as the industry lead of roads SA, where he will support the business to expand its roads portfolio in the state.

Milanes has more than 24 years’ experience in the civil engineering and transportation engineering fields, where he has worked across planning, design and delivery of transport projects both nationally and abroad.

He has previously worked as the senior principal civil engineer at WSP in Australia and as principal civil engineer of transport at Kellogg Brown and Root.

KBR said his appointment would support the company’s “continued investment in its SA transport team”.

“I am looking forward to focusing on client partnerships, building strong teams, and delivering infrastructure projects for South Australia,” Milanes said.

Communications leader joins Rugby Union SA

Rugby Union South Australia has welcomed experienced communications leader Ali Clarke to its board.

In her current role as marketing communication lead at Sport SA, Clarke leads the strategic messaging and community engagement for the state’s peak sporting body.

She has more than 20 years’ experience in media roles, including as an Adelaide radio mornings presenter for ABC Radio, Mix 102.3 and Triple M Adelaide.

Clarke has experience in board roles across the not-for-profit sector and sporting industry, including as a member of the local advisory committee for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships and The Sports Network.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ali to Rugby SA and look forward to the insight, leadership and energy she will bring as we continue to grow the game across South Australia,” Rugby Union SA said.
