From an immersive intimate cocktail experience with an ASO quartet, to a quick bite to eat while on the City Lights track, there’s Illuminate food experiences for everyone this wintertime.
Colder weather can only mean one thing – Illuminate Adelaide is nearly here. But this is Adelaide, where no festival is complete without an impressive line-up of food and drink, and this year’s program is serving up plenty of ways to stay warm while you explore.
Illuminate Adelaide co-directors and co-founders Rachael Azzopardi and Lee Cumberlidge have made the 2026 Illuminate menu the biggest and best one yet.
“Adelaide offers some of the best hospitality experiences in the world” Rachael says.. “We really wanted to celebrate our favourite dining and bar offerings as part of our Illuminate program so our audiences and visitors to the state can add this to their experience when they attend our free and ticketed events.
“This year is our biggest food program yet and will take the Illuminate-goers all the way from immersive sit-down dining experiences to quick bites on the go.”

Ocean To Plate is a celebration of South Australia’s coastline – and highlights the beauty and tastiness of our seafood. The menu focuses on local and freshly sourced ingredients, with 97 per cent of the food sourced from sustainable South Australian artisans. Think ocean-inspired dishes but done differently, and ingredients like lobster paired with the unexpected Black Angus beef tenderloin. Diners can also expect to see things like seared Port Lincoln tuna, Smoky Bay oysters, Port Broughton crab and more feature on the menu. For three sessions only at the Adelaide Convention Centre, Ocean To Plate: Immersive Dining Experience will also include cutting-edge creative technology like evocative projections and evolving soundscapes that echo the rhythms of the sea – all taking place while you eat your four-course meal.

This isn’t your regular food event: it’s an entire immersion into all four senses, complete with soaring sky-high views and performances from an Adelaide Symphony Orchestra quartet while French Campagne and canapes are served. The food will include bites like the delicate South Australian kingfish crudo along with refined French-inspired creations, provided via tray service throughout the restaurant, nine storeys into the city skyline. While the music and food take over, the iconic Sofitel Candle Lighting Ritual – which will see the entire Garçon Bleu lit up by candles to illuminate the room – adds an extraordinary touch to what will already be an unforgettable experience.

Smelly Cheese Co is the Adelaide Central Market’s main stop for all things cheese and French cuisine. Valérie Henbest, Smelly Cheese Co owner, wanted to hold a space for the food stall’s favourite things: cheese, French champagne and conversation. This Illuminate Adelaide time, Illuminate After Dark offers an exclusive foodie event where tastings turn into chats. Expect a caviar bump on arrival and a chance to taste the finest drops of French champagne with bites of cheese in this masterclass tasting.

The backbone of Illuminate’s celebration of art, light, music and technology is City Lights – the free program that lights up popular buildings and areas of the Adelaide CBD. And, for the first time this year, City Lights Pitstops will be scattered all along the trail, creating the perfect stop for a bite on the go. Expect items like toasties, cocktails and hot drinks to full café menus, offering something for everyone. You can find these City Lights Pitstops in between installations at Art Gallery of South Australia, State Library of South Australia, LUMEN Bar, Lot Fourteen and Rymill Kiosk.

The best part about venturing into the city during the wintertime is the chance to really make a night out of it, and Illuminate Adelaide is no different. Through the Illuminate Hosts program, ticketholders can find discount deals, exclusive menu options and new Illuminate offerings at selected venues. For the second year in a row and now expanding to more than 30 restaurants around the Adelaide CBD, the Illuminate Hosts program is the perfect start or end to an Illuminate night out, pre or post event. Take a trip to East End Cellars after wandering down Rundle Street while the roving performers draw in the crowds, or have a sit-down dinner at Fugazzi Bar & Dining before a Night Visions session. Other participating venues include Latteria, Osteria Oggi, Tarantino’s Adelaide, Garçon Bleu and more.

Night Visions – which creatively lights up the Adelaide Botanic Garden – can get a whole lot better if you have a love of food. The Night Visions Dining experience is a specially curated dinner by Botanic Lodge. The restaurant overlooks the garden’s lakefront, giving ticketholders an opportunity to dine among the lights in between key Night Visions installations. Expect a unique and exclusive menu featuring dishes like kingfish crudo, beef sirloin, garlic potatoes and even a to-go dessert to continue your full Night Visions experience.
Illuminate Adelaide will take place from July 1-19 in various locations. Head to the website for the full program and more information.
