With more choice than ever and a shift towards self-expression, eyewear is becoming a curated wardrobe of its own – equal parts fashion and function.
Once, choosing a pair of glasses was a purely practical exercise – a quick decision made from necessity rather than desire. Today, eyewear has stepped firmly into the fashion space, becoming an extension of personal style, as considered as a favourite handbag or a well-cut blazer.
“There’s definitely been a big shift,” says Fotini Paraschos, merchandise manager at Health Partners Optical. “Glasses used to be something people felt they had to wear; purely functional, often chosen quickly and worn reluctantly. Now they’re very much part of someone’s personal style.
“Fashion has played a large role in driving this change. Eyewear is now treated like any other accessory, and social media has also normalised wearing glasses. Seeing different styles on influencers and celebrities makes people feel more confident to experiment.”
Equally significant is the evolution of choice. “The ranges available in stores these days has completely evolved,” Fotini explains. “There’s far more choice in design, colour and materials, which means people can find something that genuinely reflects their personality.”

That spirit of self-expression is reflected in the trends emerging this winter. Rather than a single dominant look, the season embraces contrast – offering something for every aesthetic.
“This winter, we’re seeing a really nice mix of bold and refined frames,” Fotini says. “Statement frames are still strong with chunky acetates, rich tones like deep burgundy, forest green and warm caramel, and oversized shapes that make an impact. On the other hand, there’s a continued shift towards minimalism with thin metal frames, softer silhouettes and more understated styles.”
What stands out most is versatility – and a growing appetite for more than one pair. “Why stop at one pair?” she says. “People are building a wardrobe of eyewear, having a statement piece and a more classic everyday option
“At Health Partners Optical, we’ve really focused on curating a range that balances style, quality and value. We carry something for everyone – from well-known designer brands such as Gucci, Tom Ford and Prada to more unique, design-led collections you won’t see everywhere.”
Accessibility is key. “We cater to a wide range of price points and have frame and lens complete packages starting from $99, which means there’s something for everyone.”

Of course, with so much choice comes a familiar challenge: finding the right pair.
“It can feel overwhelming,” Fotini admits, “but a few simple things make a big difference.”
Her first piece of advice is surprisingly simple. “Start with how they feel, not just how they look. You’ll be wearing them for long periods of time, so if it doesn’t feel right, you won’t wear it.”
Lifestyle should also guide the decision. “If you’re active, you’ll want something lightweight and secure, whereas for work, something more versatile might suit.”
And perhaps most importantly: “Don’t be afraid to try something different. People often surprise themselves with what suits them.”
Professional guidance can make all the difference. “Our Health Partners Optical team looks at face shape, colouring, prescription needs, lifestyle and personal style,” Fotini says. “It’s not rushed. We also use digital tools and product knowledge to explain lens options, so people understand not just how their glasses will look, but how their lenses will perform.”
Looking ahead, Fotini sees even more evolution on the horizon. “What’s exciting is how eyewear has become part of everyday self-expression,” she says. “People are more confident, adventurous and willing to invest in something that makes them feel good.”
