It’s a region best known for its wine, but where to go for coffee in the Barossa Valley? Here are our top five picks.

Coco Kitchen

With former Appellation head chef Jamie Wall at the helm, it’s little wonder Coco Kitchen has quickly become a top brunch spot in the Barossa Valley. Opened in August 2024 with his wife Holly, the cafe pairs thoughtful cooking with equally impressive coffee, brewed using Mila Coffee Co’s ‘Happy Days’ blend of Brazilian and Colombian beans. Even the cups – handmade by local potter Really Useful Pots – add a personal touch to the experience. Non coffee drinkers are equally catered for, with Prana Chai and Mörk hot chocolate.

Patisserie & Farm Shop by Cheryse Zagler

Once a favourite at the weekly farmers’ market, pastry queen Cheryse Zagler has found a new home on the grounds of Kaesler Wines in Nuriootpa. Here, you’ll find her carefully-crafted treats, from flaky Danish-style pastries filled with lemon mascarpone and fresh blueberries to croissants loaded with pancetta, buffalo mozzarella, fried egg and housemade relish. Coffee enthusiasts are taken care of with beautifully poured brews using Charlie Black beans. Linger longer with a glass of wine from Kaesler, and relax out on the lawn where the kids can play, too.

Canteen

Prepare to get nostalgic at this new daytime eatery that puts a spin on school lunch time favourites. Canteen, from the crew behind popular Angaston cafe, Hive, offers a family-friendly menu in a classroom-inspired space within the Marananga School Precinct. Playful yet elevated takes on canteen fare include sausage “scrolls”, gourmet toasties made with Breaking Bread sourdough and ‘Green Eggs and Ham’. Sweet tooth? Don’t miss the toastie with chocolate by PeterM. You’ll also find a selection of local wines, while coffee is crafted using Segafredo Zanetti beans.

Fleur Social

Coffee, blooms and art collide at Fleur Social, a contemporary florist and café in the heart of Nuriootpa. Using specialty beans from Barossa Coffee Roasters, the team serves up carefully crafted brews – just how you like it – in a vibrant setting of locally-sourced floral arrangements and murals by Arlon Hall. You’ll also find casual brekky items and lunchier bites– think bacon and egg rolls, bagels and croissants – as well as sweet treats. Be sure to grab a flower bunch for home – let someone know you’re thinking about them, with same-day delivery.

Darling’s Cafe

Darling’s Cafe marks its 10th year in 2025 – that’s a decade of keeping patrons fuelled with exceptional coffee. Barista David Trotta has taken that passion to new heights, recently earning a place at the national Brewer’s Cup competition – the first South Aussie to do so. He and Alex Loft – who together run small batch roastery, Kindred Coffee – master the cafe’s La Marzocco specialty machine to ensure each cup is crafted with precision and care. A considered menu puts the spotlight on locally made produce, from Betty’s Crumpets to Breaking Bread’s morning buns, and APEX Bakery pastries.
