FIVEAA’s Leith Forrest reveals how he got his start in radio and his rule about fruit and vegetables.
Tell us a bit about yourself in a nutshell.
I am a radio announcer, proud Millicent boy and Carlton supporter. I love my wife, kids, dogs. No Salad, No Veg.
What does your idea of the perfect day look like?
Either walking the streets of New York City, a day on the rides in Disneyland, or on Can Hill at Mt Burr cheering on the Mighty Mozzies.
What is a wonderful moment of kindness you have experienced?
On September 16, 2000, Cam Thompson, then sport director of FIVEaa, kindly gave a young kid from Millicent his first ever FIVEaa shift. I’d started community radio at 14 at THE FM in Millicent, got a university degree, and was on air at 5MU in Murray Bridge, but I was desperate to work at FIVEaa with KG and Cornesy.
Thommo’s kindness has lead to 26 years of being able to work with the biggest legends in radio, and broadcast into people’s homes and cars everyday. I’m forever indebted and know how blessed and lucky I am.
What is your favourite photograph?
This one of the lovely Jessica and I on our wedding day. We got married in 2007 at City Hall in Manhattan and then took photos in all the best NYC spots, including Times Square. This is one of the ONLY wedding photos we have that’s in focus. Long, painful story.
If you could own any piece of art, what would it be?
We’re photos > art in our family.

A cafe or restaurant you’d recommend?
I don’t drink alcohol or tea and coffee, or eat fruit, vegetables or seafood, so my field is narrow. It would be a three-way tie – schnitzel stack at Jarmer’s Kitchen, beef satay at Thai Orchid or steak from Mayura Station.

I watch every Carlton game, and any show that talks about Carlton.
Favourite way to unwind?
Watching my son Bailey play footy, a concert with my daughter Ella, or walking the dogs with the lovely Jessica.

South Australian Picture Theatres and Drive-Ins by Scott Smith
Last song you listened to?
I went with my daughter Ella to see Taylor Swift. Greatest concert I’ve ever seen. I’m a full blown Swiftie now, so I listen to the masterpiece that is All Too Well (10 min version) often. IYKYK.
