Adelaide’s airwaves are buzzing with a fresh beat as a community radio station boasts record success.
In the latest community McNair consumer listener survey, Fresh92.7 recorded its biggest audience in its 27-year history. The station has grown its weekly audience to 217,000 – an increase of 5000 listeners since the previous survey – and retained its domination of the Adelaide community radio market.
Boosted by its 27th birthday party, “Groove Terminator”, which sold out in just two weeks, Fresh 92.7 has seen increases in every show and in every key demographic under 54 years of age. Thirty nine per cent of listeners are aged in the key demographic of 25 to 39.
The breakfast show, hosted by Tom & Callum, increased its audience by 19,000 listeners to 153,000.
Generation Fresh, Fresh 92.7’s talent-scout competition to find the station’s next great announcer, has drawn a flood of entries from a new generation of content creators being attracted to work at Fresh. Hundreds of entries have been narrowed – by Adelaide’s votes – to the Top 10 finalists. Check them out here, then listen to Brekkie with Tom & Callum over the next two weeks, with the winner revealed later this month.
“It’s hard not to be swept up in the energy of the Fresh fam,” content director Sean Craig Murphy said. “The entire staff works their butts off and the Fresh listeners are so engaged.
“To be given the freedom to be so creative with the content and promotions reminds me of when I first started in radio.
And the on-air team are so thirsty to learn and get better. It’s made my job over the last three months a programmer’s dream.”
