Adelaide’s favourite dance music station Fresh 92.7 is turning up the volume for its 27th birthday celebration with electronic music legend Groove Terminator headlining what promises to be the party of the year.

In a time when radio stations regularly do an about face on programming, Fresh 92.7 has not only survived – it’s thrived. And the proof is in the party: the station sold out its 27th Birthday event in just four weeks.

For nearly three decades, this electronic dance music powerhouse has been pumping beats through Adelaide’s airwaves, and now they’re preparing to celebrate in spectacular fashion.

The landmark birthday event at The Griffins Hotel will see the return of Australia’s electronic music icon Groove Terminator in a symbolic full-circle moment for the station.

“The first track ever played on Fresh was ‘Brand New Day’ by Groove Terminator… such an awesome song to kick off the start of Fresh 92.7,” says Marty Haros, the station’s production manager.

This historical connection makes GT’s headline appearance particularly meaningful for the station’s milestone celebration.

And the get wasn’t as difficult as fans might expect. “GT has always been such a huge part of Fresh over the years, so he was more than happy to come back and support us,” Marty explains. “It’s always great to see how Fresh continues to have that place in so many people’s lives even when they go on to do amazing things.”

Groove Terminator will be bringing his iconic catalogue to the decks, including crowd favourites like ‘One More Time (The Sunshine Song)’ and ‘Is It Love’ – tracks that have become anthems for several generations of dance music enthusiasts.

The birthday extravaganza isn’t limiting itself to just one sound or vibe. In a move that reflects the station’s diverse offerings, the event will feature three uniquely themed stages, each capturing a different dimension of Fresh 92.7’s identity.

The Fresh Main Windback Stage will take attendees on a journey with DT x MC Rudeboy, DASAD, Mihz, Contagious, Ezee G, Gex, Paul Marshman and Groove Terminator delivering the freshest classics that underpin the station’s reputation.

Meanwhile, the Boost RnB Stage promises soulful grooves courtesy of Spai Steezy, DNG Dave, MC Digz, DJ Logic, Dreaded and DJ Sanchez.

For those seeking higher energy, the Ray White Seaford DnB Room will deliver punishing drum and bass beats from a lineup including Renegade, Groot, Haz, Amorositie, Bright Eyed, Pretty Dark, Profeshto and Seek N Destroy.

This multi-room approach wasn’t an accident but a deliberate choice to honour the station’s musical heritage. “Our line-up is a mixture of Fresh DJs currently hosting their own shows on our airwaves plus some newbies making their way into the scene,” says Marty. “Having the three rooms this year – RnB, DnB and Windback – allows something for everyone and really highlights the beats that built us over the 27 years.”

The station hasn’t left anything to chance in planning this celebration. “We began planning late last year,” she says with obvious excitement. “I’m the main person who handles the acts and concept of the event, but our incredible team at Fresh all work so hard to bring everything to life. It’s our biggest party of the year and one that we all join forces to create and showcase for our incredible Adelaide community.”

Fresh 92.7’s birthday parties have become legendary events on Adelaide’s cultural calendar, offering not just entertainment but also a platform for emerging talent. “Our birthdays are always a great way to give our DJs a platform to shine,” Marty says, underscoring the station’s commitment to nurturing local artists.

With the event now officially sold out, attention shifts to what comes next.

In the lead-up to June 28, Fresh will be showcasing its full DJ lineup across social media and on air, diving into the stories behind the music and celebrating 27 years of the beats that built us.

Missed out on tickets? Don’t worry – more Fresh events are already in the works. “We’re currently planning our annual Windback Party for later in the year,” Marty reveals, “which purely celebrates all the nostalgic tracks played on Fresh back in the day. So, watch this space.”

Fresh 27th Birthday with Groove Terminator takes place Saturday, 28 June 2025 from 6pm at The Griffins Hotel.
