A woman who allegedly threatened police officers with a weapon has died following a police shooting in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs.

A woman allegedly armed with an axe has been fatally shot by a police officer at a Firle property in the early hours of Thursday morning.
SA Police issued a statement this morning saying that Eastern District police were called to the Gwynne Street property at Firle at 2am following reports that a woman was armed with an axe.
The officers were allegedly threatened by the armed woman upon arrival and deployed a taser which was ineffective before police “discharged a firearm, striking the woman”, according to an SA Police statement.
Police immediately rendered first aid before SA Ambulance paramedics arrived to provide medical treatment, but the woman died on the scene. A police officer has also received medical treatment after suffering minor injuries during the incident.
An investigation into the incident has commenced with Major Crime Investigation detectives, Forensic Response Section officers and Investigation Section investigators currently at the scene.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Gwynne Street remains closed while the investigations are ongoing, with SAPOL urging motorists to avoid the area.
More to come.
