Multi-storey apartment plans for prestigious city terrace
A prestigious city street could soon be houses to a new multi-storey development on the site of a former hospital.
Dozens of new homes are planned for prestigious East Terrace in the Adelaide CBD, with a proposal to build a new multi-storey apartment development.
The State Planning Commission is currently assessing plans to build a nine-storey residential development at 135-140 East Terrace, which is the site of the former Park Wynd Private Hospital.
If approved, the 77-dwelling development would also see a trio of three-storey buildings constructed alongside.
There would also be two levels of basement car parking, 56 bicycle parking spaces, communal gathering and kitchen facilities and a golf simulator room.

The development would be flanked by existing opulent one-storey and two-storey residential heritage dwellings and has views over the Adelaide Park Lands.
In planning documents supporting the proposal, urban planner and developer Future Urban said the development “delivers a substantial increase in the City’s residential population within a highly accessible location adjoining the Adelaide Park Lands”.
Two palm tree currently listed as regulated for their size would need to be removed for the development.
The urban planner said it “achieves an appropriate balance between increased development intensity and the protection of residential amenity, heritage setting and streetscape character” and “it represents precisely the type of urban renewal and residential intensification envisaged for this strategically significant site”.
Public consultation for the proposed development ends on Wednesday, August 26.
