A new children’s library will open on North Terrace in August, combining exploration, play, events and books in one hub.
The new designs of the Little Library – a free facility for children aged 0 to 11 – were revealed today, featuring artworks by Adelaide-based creatives Carlo Jensen, Andrew Joyner and Lawson Dodd.
The Little Library was backed by a $2 million state government Arts Investment Fund, Arts Minister Kyam Maher saying the government was “proud to invest in the literacy and imagination of South Australian children”.
“Little Library is more than a space, it’s a commitment to the next generation of curious, creative kids and a reflection of our dedication to the Arts and to the importance of the cultural institutions that shape our state,” Maher said.

The library was designed to be a purpose-build environment for children, with opportunities for hands-on play and engaging programs and events.
It was developed in collaboration with the City of Adelaide’s City Library.

State Library of South Australia director Megan Berghuis said she was excited to welcome families into the Little Library.
“Little Library will share the local stories that celebrate the places, people and perspectives of South Australia, connecting generations and fostering a sense of belonging through the stories that make us,” Berghuis said.

“This includes working with the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music and Kaurna Warra Pintyanthi at Adelaide University to bring elements of the Kaurna Songbook into Little Library.
Little Library will be located on the ground floor Spence Wing at North Terrace.
