One of the top names in South Australian media has announced his resignation after close to a decade in a television news room

Jeremy Pudney announced his resignation as Director of News at Nine in an all-staff email today, saying he was moving on to a role at Flinders University.
In the email seen by InDaily, Pudney said that he was “sad to be leaving the Nine team” and that “you are all excellent people”.
“We have made great progress as a team, including in the ratings over the past two years – and already into the start of 2026,” he said.
“While my managers – who I am very thankful to – asked if they could help me find a way to stay on, after more than 30 years in newsrooms – and 14 as a news director or deputy – I know it’s the right time to take my career in a different direction.
“But I’ll remain grateful for my amazing time at Nine.”
It is the latest high-profile resignation for Nine Adelaide, following the departure of deputy director Ben Avery, who left the network to join the South Australian Liberals as an advisor.
Executive producer Fiona Clark also recently quit Nine after four years at the station, while the contract of newsreader Kate Collins was not renewed at the end of last year as the network moved to slash 50 television jobs.
Pudney confirmed he would remain “on deck” until at least the state election in March.
Executive director of news and current affairs Fiona Dear said she was “sad” to see ‘Puds’ leave the newsroom.
“Jeremy is one of the hardest-working news operators I’ve had the pleasure of working with,” Dear said.
“As well as that, he’s a great guy who cares deeply about his team. I know this decision would have been tough for Puds but I also know he’s doing this for his family too, and family always comes first.
“We’re grateful that Puds will lead the newsroom for the next few months while we begin the important process of appointing our next Adelaide News Director.”
