Premier’s spin chief poached by the AFL
The Premier’s media director is starting a new gig at the AFL – after several years teeing up media ops for the state’s prized Gather Round.
Media and Communications Director Adam Todd, who has worked with Premier Peter Malinauskas for almost a decade, has accepted a new job with the AFL.
Todd – a Port Adelaide supporter, just like the Premier – will make the move to Melbourne in October to become a senior strategic communications manager.
He has worked for Malinauskas since he became Labor leader in 2018 and Premier in 2022, and was at the helm of communications strategy when it came time to announce the government secured the hosting rights to AFL’s Gather Round in 2023.

Gather Round is staying in South Australia until at least 2029 under a renewed deal announced by Malinauskas and the AFL CEO Andrew Dillon in June.
Prior to that, Todd was former Premier Jay Weatherill’s chief media advisor.
Chief media advisor Nick Harmsen will take over the top job, while current senior media advisor to the Premier Jemma Chapman shifts into Harmsen’s current role.
Harmsen formerly worked for the ABC for more than 14 years, including as deputy editor while Chapman is a former InDaily journalist and a Channel 10 senior journalist, producer and chief of staff.
