South Australia Police have arrested a further 50 domestic violence offenders in the fifth dedicated and statewide anti-domestic abuse operation, Deputy Commissioner Linda Williams said in a statement today.

Operation Storm saw police target 339 offenders during the operation, they attended 433 addresses to issue intervention orders and ensure offenders’s bail conditions were met.

Williams said Operation Storm has now seen 1759 domestic violence offenders across South Australia targeted, with 361 offenders arrested and 105 intervention orders issued.

“Our proactive approach to domestic abuse continues to show alleged offenders that we conduct compliance checks and searches to deter ongoing offending,” Williams said.

“The recent two-week operation employed a deterrence approach towards alleged perpetrators, with 155 support referrals made for alleged offenders to access rehabilitation services.”

“As a result, 19 views were conducted on the SAPOL website to access this material, showing alleged perpetrators are willing to access services to seek assistance with their behaviour.”

During the operation, a 25-year-old man from Morphett Vale was arrested for the alleged offending of aggravated assault, two counts of breach intervention order with violence, and two counts of breach bail.

While a 56-year-old Gilberton man was arrested for two counts of aggravated assault on his girlfriend after allegedly throwing scissors at her face hitting her in the eye and repeatedly hitting and punched her.

Police said the woman feared for her safety and sustained several injuries.

Over the two-week operation, more than 348 police officers across all areas in South Australia completed 44 bail compliance checks, charged people for 70 offences, executed 19 warrants for the various domestic abuse offences, conducted a firearm prohibition compliance search and issued a stalking caution.

“These continued operations contribute to SAPOL’s aim to reduce rates of perpetration and intimate partner homicide,” Deputy Commissioner Williams said.

“We continue to monitor and assess risk, while sharing the information with other services as part of a multi-agency response.”

The Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme enables people who are in a relationship or third parties who are concerned about someone who may be at risk of domestic violence to ask information about a partner or former partner.
