Fresh 92.7 has been Adelaide’s go-to dance station for almost 30 years, and now it’s taking its signature “Windback Wednesday” throwback vibes onto the dance floor.
Adelaide has always known how to party. From the days when Planet Cream turned Thebarton into a weekly pilgrimage for club kids, to the era when Stereosonic and Future Music Festival ruled summer, the city’s dance floors have pulsed with an energy that only Adelaide dance fans can generate.
And if you’ve ever found yourself yelling along to Darude’s Sandstorm at 2am, you already know the vibe Fresh 92.7 is about to unleash on Currie Street this October.
On Friday, October 10, the station that has defined dance culture in Adelaide for nearly 30 years is throwing its biggest Windback Party yet. For one night only, Zhivago will transform into a time machine of club anthems and festival bangers. The soundtrack? A carefully curated journey through the ’90s, 2000s and early 2010s – three decades that shaped dance music as we know it.
Expect Avicii. Expect Calvin Harris. Expect Skrillex drops that will rattle your ribcage. And, yes, expect Darude. This is the music that raised Adelaide’s dance generation, brought together in a single night of hedonistic nostalgia.
For years, Fresh 92.7 listeners have lived for Windback Wednesdays. Each week, DJs dig deep into the archives, dusting off the club classics that made Adelaide’s scene legendary. It’s been the city’s weekly permission slip to crank the volume and remember where our love of dance music began.
Now, that same spirit is stepping off the airwaves and onto the dance floor.
“Our Windback parties have been a longstanding tradition at Fresh 92.7 and one we will continue to uphold,” says Marty Haros, production and event manager at Fresh.
“Our theme this year, Dance through the Decades, perfectly sums up how we as a station pride ourselves on celebrating with the essence of Fresh – our listeners and our music. Whether they’ve been with us since 1998 or just tuning in, our parties are a staple in the Adelaide music scene and always promise an incredible night.”
It’s more than a party. It’s a chance to reconnect with the soundtrack of our lives, to remember the nights we thought would never end, and to celebrate the local station that has always been at the centre of it.
Zhivago’s basement will host a stacked lineup that’s as Adelaide as it gets.
Leading the charge are local icons Paul Marshman, Midtown Jack, and Vyce Verso & Matt Sammut – the latter known for tearing up dance floors with his saxophone-infused sets. These are names synonymous with late nights, sweaty clubs and the electric unpredictability of Adelaide’s underground.
But the Windback Party isn’t just about looking back. Rising stars like JSTR and Nia Mousai bring a fresh energy to the decks, bridging generations of clubbers with their deep-house and electro cuts.
And that’s just scratching the surface. The full lineup reads like a who’s who of Adelaide DJs: Gunda G, Profeshto, Contagious, L T Balkin, Ezee G, MIHZ, MUTUALS, Gex, Kas Money, Bright Eyed, Peraltaa, Rusha, DASAD, CTRL LAB, PrettyDark, DT x MC Rudeboy, Tinkerb9l, Cavvv and more.
Fresh has always been more than a radio station. It’s been a rite of passage. For almost 30 years, it has introduced Adelaide to new sounds, supported local artists and connected listeners with the global pulse of dance culture. The Windback Party is a reminder that this station is as much about community as it is about beats.
So, dig out the fluoro, channel your inner festival vibe and get ready to dance through the decades. Whether you’re a veteran of Adelaide’s rave scene or a newcomer curious about what all the fuss is about, Fresh 92.7’s Windback Party promises the kind of night you’ll be talking about for years.
