Lameroo has beaten fellow finalists Keith and Kimba to take out the title, marking a major win for the region.

Lameroo has been named South Australia’s Agricultural Town of the Year, taking top honours at a prestigious awards ceremony held at Lot.100 on Wednesday evening.
The Award is an initiative of the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA), delivered in partnership with InDaily.
The Mallee town – a first-time finalist – triumphed over fellow contenders Keith and Kimba to claim the coveted title, recognising its pursuit of excellence in agriculture and regional development.
The award was announced at the 2025 Regional Showcase Awards celebration evening, which celebrated South Australia’s regional communities, leaders and initiatives for their contribution to the state’s $17.1 billion agriculture sector.
Home to just under 900 people, Lameroo is leading the way in sustainable farming, innovation and agricultural education. The town is making the most of its location and opportunities, using its surrounds to strengthen both local industry and community life.
The Agricultural Town of the Year independent judging panel praised the town for “stamping ag on everything”, with the region recognised as a food bowl and home to major agricultural businesses such as potato, carrot and onion producer Pye Group, and McPiggery, a family farming business that is pioneering closed-loop systems and sustainability.
Lameroo was also commended for its resilience and community spirit during a particularly difficult year, with producers facing prolonged dry conditions.
The town, recognised for its stunning silo artwork, is further distinguished by its diverse and multicultural workforce, with women playing key leadership roles across industry, research and community life.
Lameroo was selected from a record-breaking 96 unique town nominations across the state. The winning town receives a community celebration event, a town entrance sign, a trophy and extensive media exposure highlighting its achievements and contribution to South Australia’s agricultural sector.
Clare Scriven, Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development congratulated Lameroo on being named the 2025 Agricultural Town of the Year.
“This award is a testament to the community’s resilience, ingenuity and commitment to building a strong and sustainable future for South Australia’s agriculture sector,” she told more than 150 guests who attended the event in the Adelaide Hills.
“Despite many challenges – including prolonged drought, unpredictable weather and biosecurity risks – our regional communities continue to show remarkable strength.
“I also commend our finalists, Keith and Kimba, and thank every town that participated.”
Now in its seventh year, the Agricultural Town of the Year Award recognises South Australian towns that excel in agricultural practices and are great places to live and work, while highlighting the vital role that agriculture plays in regional development. The previous Ag Town of the Year winners are Cleve (2019), Pinnaroo (2020), Kimba (2021), Mypolonga (2022), Wudinna (2023) and Penola (2024).
