An apology to South Australia’s real 40 Under 40

We apologise to the 440 inspiring young South Australians who were nominated for our official 40 Under 40 program. We cannot be accountable for the actions of others.

The Advertiser has today published a list of who they think are the state’s 40 under 40 young business leaders. Well and good.

However, each year they do this at a time just before the official 40 under 40 program is announced in Mid June by InDaily – their competitor.

This is after InDaily receives close to 200 applications from 400 nominations that are then judged by an experienced and highly-regarded panel of judges over three months – using old-fashioned application and expert assessment.

The InDaily 40 Under 40 will be presented by Premier Malinauskas at a function at Adelaide Oval on June 19 2025.

The timing of this list published by The Advertiser, can create confusion with our program, so last year we sent a letter from our lawyers asking them not to do it this year, not to use any of our IP and to clarify the distinction between their list and our three-month award program. They agreed in writing, but it seems they don’t intend to comply.

So apologies to the next generations of nominees who have been through this established program and to the judges and sponsors and the list of 40 under 40 we have selected through a rigorous process over eight years. Your achievement is carefully assessed and valued.

While we are flattered by this imitation from The Advertiser, it is probably more a lesson to emerging leaders on how to professionally forge your own way with your own ideas.

Come help us celebrate the achievements of South Australia’s emerging leaders at the awards gala on June 19. Tickets on sale now.
