Inaugural Codan Founders’ Scholarship recipient announced
Technology company Codan has awarded its first Founders’ Scholarship, multi-year PhD program, in partnership with Adelaide University.
Engineering graduate Sebastian Cox was named the inaugural recipient and will now undertake a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Electronic Engineering.
The Codan Founders’ Scholarship program aims to embed PhD research within the company’s engineering teams and align projects with Codan’s communications and detection technologies.
As part of the program, Cox will undertake research at Minelab’s Mawson Lakes headquarters where he will contribute to sensor prototyping, field data and algorithm development for metal detection technology.
“It’s a privilege to have been awarded the Codan Founders’ Scholarship. I’m excited by the opportunity to work alongside an accomplished team and contribute to meaningful research,” Cox said.
MaxMine expands into fleet management after ten years
South Australian mining technology services provider MaxMine has announced its push into fleet management after celebrating 10 years of business in July.

The company hoped its new offering would improve productivity and lower costs per tonne for miners in a bid to get a slice of a sector expected to be worth US$70 billion by 2030.
MaxMine CEO Shaun Mitchell said the expansion was a “natural next step”.
“The high-resolution data we hold and the capabilities we’ve built are exactly what’s needed to solve the biggest challenges facing mine sites today,” Mitchell said.
“Fleet management and machine guidance are becoming strategic priorities, as operators look for greater visibility, better decision-making and improved productivity across their sites.”
SA insurance broker wins top industry honour
An Adelaide-based insurance professional has been named the National Insurance Brokers Association’s (NIBA) SA/NT Broker of the Year.
Client Relationship Manager Shannan Gardner from Guardian Insurance Brokers was awarded the top honour at the NIBA event in July.
The award recognises senior insurance brokers who deliver outstanding client outcomes, professional excellence and a commitment to advancing the insurance profession.
Gardner will now represent SA and the NT in the national Broker of the Year awards which are scheduled for October.
“This award is not only recognition of her professionalism and expertise, but also the trust she has built with clients and colleagues throughout her career,” Guardian Insurance Brokers managing director Evan Jackson said.
AML3D unveils financial results
Adelaide-based 3D metal printing company AML3D has reported a $29 million order book during the 2026 financial year, driven by major US military orders.

AML3D cash receipts for 2026 totals $10.4 million, up 20 per cent on the prior year with $16.8 million rolling over to the next financial year.
The growth was driven by a $4.1 million ARCEMY system order by Newport News Shipbuilding, a $1.1 million ARCEMY at the US Navy’s Additive Manufacturing Centre of Excellence and a $1.6 million dollar US Defence, Aerospace and Energy supplier FasTech.
The company has also initiated a $12 million investment to double US manufacturing capacity to ensure it maximises opportunities in North America, while its cash position remains strong at $26.7 million.
Coopers Brewery partners with major golf league
Coopers Brewery has been announced as the naming rights partner for professional short-format golf event Blitz Golf.
The Coopers Blitz Golf Australia Series is set to feature six events across January and February in Perth, Adelaide, Phillip Island, Yarrawonga, Sydney, and Gold Coast.
The partnership will see Coopers integrated into the six events, including branding, hospitality, bars, and interactive fan zones.
“Coopers and golf share a long history, and we’re thrilled to be the inaugural naming rights partner of Blitz Golf for the upcoming Australia series and beyond,” Coopers Managing director Michael Shearer said.
Eureka Prizes SA finalists
South Australians have been listed as finalists for the 2026 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes, with winners to be announced at a ceremony in Sydney on September 3.
The Eureka Prizes is Australia’s top national science awards, honouring excellence across the research and innovation, leadership, science engagement, and school science.
Adelaide University’s Dr Dominic McAfee has been nominated in the Emerging Leader in Science, Technology and Engineering category for his work in rebuilding Australia’s lost shellfish reefs and marine restoration.
Professor Mark Hutchinson has been nominated for the Leadership in Science award for his work pioneering neuroimmunopharmacology, and his research through the ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale BioPhotonics.
Flinders University’s Biomedical Nanoengineering Laboratory has been nominated for the Infectious Diseases Research category for developing gallium-based, liquid-metal coatings for medical implants that fight infection without antibiotics.
