The City of Adelaide is celebrating NAIDOC Week with a series of events across the CBD and North Adelaide from July 6 until July 13. This year’s national theme is “The Next Generation: Strength, Legacy and Vision”.

Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith says, “The City of Adelaide proudly honours NAIDOC Week as a time to reflect on the enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples — past, present and emerging.”

Highlights include NAIDOC in the Mall on Tuesday, July 8, where the public can interact with Aboriginal businesses, and the annual NAIDOC March on Friday, July 11. The march travels from Tarntanyangga / Victoria Square to Parliament House and will be followed by a Family Fun Day.

On July 12, there’s a ‘Next Generation’ event hosted at North Adelaide Community Centre, aligning with the theme of the week and featuring live music, Kaurna language and a light afternoon tea made with Indigenous ingredients.

The City of Adelaide is also supporting several art exhibitions, including Purkarari: Slow Down, a new exhibition by Zaachariaha Fielding of Electric Fields fame. The exhibition, held at the Adelaide Town Hall, features collaborative works with artists from the APY Art Centre Collective.
