The hip-hop trio have announced Fall From The Light, their first album in six years, will be released in August.
Hilltop Hoods’ ninth studio album is due to be released August 1, with the trio, Suffa, Pressure and DJ Debris, recording in Adelaide, Darwin, Melbourne and New Zealand.
The album, announced today, has 12 tracks including features from Adelaide’s pop princess Nyassa and New Zealand pop band Six60.
So far in 2025, they’ve released lead single ‘The Gift’ featuring Adelaide-based, Larrakia artist Marlon.
Fall From The Light is the trio’s first album since 2019’s The Great Expanse, and founding member Suffa says it’s been “an exercise in patience”.
“Six years is a long time between albums, but there’s a good reason for that,” Suffa says.
“There was a lot happening, in the world and in our lives, but it turns out from my perspective anyway, that time was the album’s strength, not its weakness.
“We’ve never been so thorough, so pedantic with an album before. The result is something that’s been carefully crafted with an extreme attention to detail.
“It’s an album that we’re really proud of, and a body of music that we can’t wait to share with everyone.”
Fellow Hilltop Hoods founder Pressure agrees the trio “really took our time with this one”.
“We put more years into it than any other of our albums because we wanted it to be our best work to date,” Pressure says.
“Putting it out after so long feels more monumental and exciting than ever.”
Bookending the tracklist is emerging artist Nyassa, who features on ‘The Moth’ and the titular track.
Nyassa has toured Australia, Europe and the United Kingdom with the band and featured on two tracks on The Great Expanse – ‘Be Yourself’ and ‘Here Without You’.
Nyassa told CityMag last year that before The Great Expanse, she hadn’t released any music and collaborating with Hilltop Hoods when “they could have got someone with a big name” was “meant to be”.
“For them to want to support me or put me on the album just because they thought I was a good singer shows what type of people they are,” she told CityMag.
SA festival goers will be able to hear the new music live in November at Langhorne Creek’s Handpicked festival, with Hilltop Hoods headlining and Marlon joining them on the lineup.
‘The Gift’ featuring Marlon and ‘Don’t Happy, Be Worry’ are the first taste of the album and are out now.
Fall From The Light will be released on August 1, with a limited edition 180 gram 2LP coloured vinyl also available.
