Meet Port Adelaide AFLW star Matilda Scholz, who is an ambassador for KickStart for Kids and its fight against period poverty in South Australia.

What does your idea of the perfect day look like?
Waking up at 8am feeling refreshed from a great sleep. Then, going to footy training while having a laugh and dancing with my friends. The sun would be out – a warm 30 degrees. After training, where ideally I would kick 100 goals and take 100 hangers, I would go to Port Willunga with my sister and best friends, take some nice photos and eat a yummy lunch. Because my perfect day has unlimited hours, I would then head to schools and educate students on feminism, equality and period poverty, something I’m very passionate about. To end the day, I would go back to the beach with my mum and my sister, go for a sunset swim and eat pizza on the beach.

What is a wonderful moment of kindness you have experienced?
Every day, when my partner wakes up and offers to make me breakfast, then offers to make me lunch and later makes dinner. The kindest person I know!

Matilda Sholz’s favourite photo is of a hot air balloon ride over Luxor during a trip to Egypt.

What is your favourite photograph?
This photo is of a hot air balloon ride over Luxor at dawn, taken during a trip to Egypt with my partner. The colours of the sky and the balloons that filled the space around us were amazing. Everything about our trip was amazing and I wish I could relive it.

If you could own any piece of art, what would it be?
I love the paintings of East Coast artist Mia Phillips. They’re beachy and ocean-inspired with pretty colours. I would love to hang one in my house one day.

Here’s $500. You have to spend it in the next hour. What are you buying?
I would buy lots of pads and tampons to donate to KickStart for Kids Against Period Poverty.

A café in SA you’d recommend?
I will always recommend Luma in Henley or a new one, Doozy Deli on Jetty Road, Brighton.

What was the last film you watched?
A Haunted House. It’s a comedy about a couple moving into a new house and realising they’re not alone. I had many laugh-out-loud moments watching this.

Favourite way to unwind?
Reading a book or watching some TikTok. I find TikTok a way to escape my reality by doomscrolling and watching cooking videos or dancing videos. Similarly, a good book helps me escape to a different world and unwind.

Last book you read?
The Women by Kristin Hannah, which I highly recommend! It’s a historical fiction highlighting the forgotten contributions of female nurses during the Vietnam War, exploring themes of feminism, patriarchy and female friendship.

Last song you listened to?
Kehlani and Missy Elliott’s new track Back and Forth – I like it!

Matilda will appear at KickStart for Kids’ annual Against Period Poverty Fundraiser on Friday, May 29.
