Jess Dover, model and co-founder of baby blanket brand, Something Sebastian, speaks with SALIFE about her favourite things.

What brings you joy in life?

Genuinely the simple things: A coffee with my closest people, seeing a movie, a beautiful homewares store, watching my son truly happy or excited about something, journaling or reading a good book. I’ve found amongst life’s chaos the smallest things bring me the most peace.

Describe the best day of your life?

I know it sounds cliche but truly it was giving birth to my son, it was the most magical day of my life. It exceeded my expectations, like time stood still in our own euphoric bubble. Maybe amongst life’s ever moving pace, for what felt like in a long time I knew I was exactly where I was meant to be.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

“What’s meant for you will not pass you by”. This has given me a lot of peace knowing even when things feel they may not be going right, it’s the universe redirecting me for where I’m meant to be.

What is your most treasured photograph?

This photo of my son and I. I remember it being the most beautiful balmy morning and a moment where I felt like I was finally feeling my best self again after becoming a mum. And Seb’s squishy face- how can you not love it!

Jess Dover’s favourite photo.

Best meal you’ve ever eaten?

It was a restaurant in the Old Town of Mykonos, Greece. The freshest meat and seafood I’ve ever eaten!

What is a wonderful moment of kindness you have experienced?

I am fortunate to have so many come to mind, but the greatest act of kindness I’ve experienced would be my brother and how he supported my son when I became a single mum. He lived with us for many years and generously gave so much of his time, love and energy to us. His kindness and selflessness will never be forgotten.

What are the best qualities of your favourite person?

My mum – she had the ability to make everyone feel loved and seen, people were drawn to her for empathetic and caring qualities. And always had the best sense humour.

If you could own any piece of art, what would it be?

I’ve always been drawn to the sculptures of South Australian artist Kelly Allison. Her pieces are beautifully organic in form, and I’ve long admired the way she pairs those natural shapes with subtle and striking pops of colour. Such gorgeous work!

What are the best five songs on your playlist?

My music choice is not everyone’s style, but I love a classic amongst your top hits:

There She Goes – The La’s

She’s So High – Tal Bachman

King of Wishful Thinking – Go West

Collide – Ed Sheeran

Semi Charmed Life – Third Eye Blind

What was your best purchase?

Ooh this is tough, I’d say it’s an even split between my Dyson Airwrap and my Canon GX7 camera. I use both almost every day, I couldn’t go without them now.

A restaurant or cafe you’d recommend?

Shobosho in the city – the atmosphere and food is an absolute 10/10, highly recommend. For a cafe, I love Whistle & Flute on Greenhill Road, the coffee is always perfection.
