Nicole Reschke of Coonawarra’s Koonara Wines – which is pouring at Adelaide Fringe venue, Fool’s Paradise – shares some of her favourite life moments.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Nicole Reschke, and together with my husband Dru, we run Koonara Wines – a family wine label in Coonawarra. Our wines have been featured at Fool’s Paradise for the second year now. We’re big believers in supporting live events and entertainment – Adelaide’s cultural scene is thriving right now, and it’s such a fun time to be part of it.
What does your idea of the perfect day look like?
Waking early after a solid seven hours of sleep – that’s the dream right there! I’d start with a workout or a good walk to clear my head, then gather around the kitchen bench with my family for breakfast together. Lunch would be with girlfriends, somewhere with delicious food and a beautiful bottle of wine – the kind of long, laughing lunch where you lose track of time. Home for a rest on the couch with whatever show I’m currently binge-watching, then dinner with the family, an evening walk and tucked up in bed by 10pm with a good book.
What is a wonderful moment of kindness you have experienced?
When the girls were little and in a double pram, one day, getting off the bus in the city (after living in the country, I was out of practice navigating city life), the doors started to close on me as I tried to push the pram out the door. You know, one of those situations where you’re juggling bags, a pram, getting through the people and trying to get off on time, and the bus starts to take off again with the pram jammed in the door. This lovely, random man called for the bus to stop, helped me with the pram and got me settled. I still think about him. He saw what was happening, validated the chaos for me in that moment, and responded with such kindness and compassion.
What is your favourite photograph?
When my girls were little, they posed for this photo on my youngest’s first day of school, and they’ve recreated it every year since. I absolutely love it. Watching them grow taller, their style evolve, their personalities develop, but seeing that same playful connection between them captured year after year? It’s everything. It reminds me that, even as they become their own people, the bond they share stays strong. Those annual photos are among my most treasured possessions.

If you could own any piece of art, what would it be?
It would have to be a David Bromley. I love the bold colours, those confident brush strokes – his work makes such a statement. There’s something joyful and unapologetic about his pieces that I find irresistible. The kind of art that transforms a room and makes you smile every time you walk past it.
Here’s $500. You have to spend it in the next hour – what are you buying?
I’m buying an experience, hands down. Maybe tickets to a show I’ve been wanting to see, a cooking or art class, a day spa session with a girlfriend, or even a wine tasting tour somewhere I’ve never been. Something I can do, somewhere I can go, memories I can make. Something that fills my cup.
Top cafe or restaurant recommendation?
Part Time Lover in the city – absolutely brilliant. The food is share-style, which I love, the vibes are fabulous, and the atmosphere is just fun. It’s the kind of place where you go for drinks and end up staying for hours because everything is so good and you’re having too much fun to leave.
What was the last TV show you watched?
Do I dare admit it? I’m watching MAFS. I absolutely love the tune-out factor! Sometimes you just need something light and entertaining where you don’t have to think too hard. No apologies.
Favourite way to unwind?
A sunny day, sitting under an umbrella with a good book. Add a glass of cold delicious wine, and I’m completely content. It’s my reset button.
Last book you read?
Gone Before Goodbye by Harlan Coben and Reese Witherspoon – so many twists and turns. I need a book that grabs me straight away, and I love one that keeps me guessing, and this one definitely delivered, right to the last page.
Last song you listened to?
Green Light by Lorde. I think it’s romantic, and it just always puts me in a good mood. One of those songs that makes you want to turn up the volume and sing along.
