SALIFE meets 7NEWS reporter and dairy farmer Casey Treloar, who will next month host a gala evening for the Sophie’s Legacy charity, raising awareness for the mental health challenges faced by veterinary industry workers – a cause close to her heart.
Describe the best day of your life.
It was the day I realised I’d achieved my biggest goal in life. That was to be a reporter for the biggest cow show in the world. The dream turned into a reality last year when I travelled to Wisconsin in the USA to represent a media organisation called Cowsmopolitan – where I was a roving reporter, producing live interviews with the biggest and most successful cow people in the world. I’m so thrilled to be asked back again this year.
What brings you joy in life?
Spending weekends with my fiancé Sam and my dog Louis at our holiday house on Hindmarsh Island. Some of our favourite memories are made there – including our engagement. I also love being an advocate for industries and causes that are close to my heart. Recently, I became an ambassador for Sophie’s Legacy which spreads awareness and promotes positive change for the mental health of veterinarians. And I’m looking forward to hosting their inaugural gala in October.
Best advice you’ve been given?
Never settle for mediocrity. This quote has stuck with me for 15 years. It allowed me to chase my dreams in my personal and professional life, while always striving to be the best version of myself.
Most treasured photograph?
Rewind nine years ago to when I had some professional photos taken with my first cow, Junior, just shy of her 13th birthday. I won Junior at the Royal Adelaide Show when I was 11 years old. She went on to be the foundation cow for my business, Finesse Genetics. And she has bred on with decedents June and Juniper winning some of the biggest shows in the country.
Best meal you’ve ever eaten?
I’m lucky to be able to regularly eat the best meal ever. And that’s a home-cooked wagyu steak from our local butcher in Aldgate. No one sells better fresh steaks and no one cooks them better than my fiancée.
Best purchase?
I’m hoping my best purchase will be a cow named Ruffles I recently bought. Her genetic profile ranks her as the best female dairy cow in the country for how good she looks, and I plan on capitalising on that marketing potential.
What are the best qualities of your favourite person?
My fiancé Sam! He may have grown up a city boy, but he has more than embraced and supported my passion for showing cows. He’s selfless, supportive, generous, and is a mean cook. He’s always building something. Recent examples include learning to weld to build a stock crate for our trailer so I can tow my cows around the countryside, as well as backyard additions of a homemade pizza oven and a traditional sauna made from scratch.
What are the best five songs on your playlist?
I’m a country music tragic at the moment … top five would be:
White Horse by Chris Stapleton; Beyonce’s take on Jolene; Indigo by Sam Barber; God Needs the Devil by Jonah Kagen; and Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma by Luke Combs.
The Raise a Glass for Hope Cocktail Gala Party will be held at Adelaide Convention Centre on Saturday, October 18.
