Sally Gifford, actor and screenwriter of Australian film, Kangaroo Island, shares some of her favourite things in life.
Best day of your life?
The best day of my life, hypothetically, would take place at our beach house on Kangaroo Island and would involve a sleep-in, followed by wake-up cuddles from our kiddos and labradoodle kisses. Then, we’d make brekkie whilst dancing to happy tunes, then trek to the beach where we’d snorkel for hours. For my ‘best day’, my favourite friends and family from around the world would magically be in attendance and we would swim, chat and play beach cricket. Lastly, we would have a beautiful dinner under the stars, crack jokes and share great stories.
What brings you joy in life?
Laughing! I love a dark joke – never cruel, but dark – and I love trying to come up with hilarious scenarios with my funny family and friends. On the flip side, I also love sincere connection and sharing vulnerabilities with people it is safe to do so with. I love special time with my kids, dates with my husband, reading, and Broadway. In fact, I love to dance and sing my head off to Broadway tunes (never in public, you’re welcome).
Best advice you’ve been given?
“Take yes for an answer” (from my dad). I suffer a bit from imposter syndrome; my dad was encouraging me to believe in myself and let people enjoy what I bring to the table.
Most treasured photograph?
My family on vacation in Turks and Caicos (Islands) after being locked up in an apartment for 18 months during Covid.
Best meal you’ve ever eaten?
Um, anything that ends with a chocolatey dessert.
Best qualities of your favourite person?
My favourite people are empathetic, supportive, good listeners, funny and doers because I am a thinker, so I need someone that helps get me out of my head (and bed).
Best five songs on your playlist?
Not necessarily my favourite songs of all time but current top five:
1. Psychic City – Yacht, Classixx
2. Bobcaygeon – The Tragically Hip
3. Nothing Compares To You – Prince and Rosie Gaines
4. Masquerade, Original Cast of Stereophonic
5. Juicy – 2005 Remaster, Notorious B.I.G.
Best purchase?
I am truly not materialistic, to a fault maybe, but I am always happy with a pair of jeans that fit and I’m glad I have a house.
